Youre right, conga and tumba would be better.
But I think they could order that for you if get in touch with them before. Should be no problem for such a big dealer!

Hey guys,
i'm back to share my second shopping experience in Thomann:)

I was pretty amazed by the store, its huge, million guitars, pianos and other intruments you can try there. Unfortunately, percussion section has only shitty drums and "better" drums are in warehouse and it takes up to 50 minutes to get them. Surpisingly we found that not all of the drums are on stock despite the fact they're marked as on stock on their webpage.

I asked for higher level, but not pro 11 3/4 and 12 1/2 drums so we made it to Meinl Professional or LP Classics. They brough 5 drums in after 55 mins and i played them for about 2hrs. I must say I really liked LP's hardware, the comfort rims a fantastic, plus handle. On the other hand, LP classics were quite ringy, most of the ringing went away after some time, but some still remained. Some of you know my troubles with ringing, i choose drum that had no metalic ringin at all- Meinl professional natural colour 11 3/4. Few reasons i chose this Meinl pro over LP classics:

pros:
1) almost same open tone as LP
2) deeper,nicer base tone
3) no ringing slaps despite slightery thinner skin
4) smaller weight
5) 100 euros lower price
6) idea that I could use my Luis Conte 11 3/4 as a tumba due to its new skin (2.8mm befor soaking, 4mm after drying). LC has almost the same shape and colour.

cons
1) no handle .... but I bought a bag for the money I saved
2) no tumba brother...
3) rims (but i dont interfere with rims too much anyway...)

Total cost 319+70 euros

I brought the drum home, I play it second day now and I'm happy with what I have. I havent felt this joy of playing for a looong time and its big relief after all the troubles. LC works fine as a tumba. Learning 2 drum patterns as so much fun. I have to limit myself not to play too much since my hands are not used to it and I dont want to have any problems with tendons (as I had once:( )
I surely wont be on stage any time soon so the rim difference doesnt bother me much.

So thats my story.

I thank to everyone who post ideas and opinios here or "ringing conga thread"

Mario

Hey Mario, I am glad you like your new drum!

Do not worry about the missing handles - it is actually a pro argument, as you do not need them really in my opinion.

So welcome to the club of mismatched congas
Seriously, that does not matter much, it would a purely aesthetic thing,
I play 4 different LP drums in one setup - the sound is awesome, and
that is what matters most to me.

So enjoy!

Hi Mario congratulations on your set. Can you tell me something?

Does the traditional rim from the LC conga FIT on the professional conga?
Can you try to switch them to see if they fit?
If so - you could buy a traditional rim and place it on the pro series drum to make them match up.
I would like to know since I want to buy the traditional rims for my Mienl Pro conga and tumba.

Hi,
i think they should fit, drums are really similar. I'll measure diametres for you. I'm affraid to put the rims and skins down, because thats how started my ringing problem with my first drum. Hope you're not mad at me. I will put only LC rim down and place it on SSR on Pro drum to see if they match.
