VINNIEL,

THANKS BRO. CURRENTLY, I STILL HAVE ONE MORE DRUM TO REFINISH, (THE TUMBA). WHICH WILL MAKE IT A SET OF THREE. IN THE NEAR FUTURE I WILL ALSO PURCHASE A QUINTO AS WELL, AND REFINISH IT, AS WELL AS REPLACE THE CROWN, WITH A TRADITIONAL ONE. IN ORDER TO MATCH THE REST. THE FULL SET WILL BE: (A TUMBA, TWO CONGAS, AND A QUINTO) THAT WILL COMPLETE MY SET OF MATADORS.

THANKS AGAIN,

CHARLIE. 8)

Love the old skool Matadors. I picked these 3 up last night off of craigslist.
I immediately put on the traditional rims I had on the quinto and conga and ordered the tumba rim to match the set.

Those Matadors really have a killer sound!

As said before, Matador are by no means "intermediate" congas or of lesser quality.

At least they used to be...

Well, I finally finished up my old matador quinto. It was once wine red (before), then painted blue (during), and now is natural blond wood (after). My goal was to get it to match my natural wood LP classics. its pretty close. I sanded the heck out of this thing...then used 8 coats of minwax fast drying polyurethane-Gloss, then polished up the hardware and added the LP rubber bumpers. The head is a new LP H20 buffalo that I had lying around...I used a dab of paint stripper to wipe the LP logo off then sponged it all off with water quickly after. Check out some pix below (notice the one stave of wood that is a totally different color than the rest :?

Thanks King...Naaa the drum head sounds pretty bad. its way to thin. When I get some extra cash I think i'll try a cow on it. It needs something thick. But it was either the water buffalo or a evans tri center...so i went with the skin :D

You did a nice job Sakuntu , I love the natural colour of the wood . A nice thick cow will complete the finish .
I bet your really pleased with the finish .
