To be fair, he doesn't say it's Cuban - only that it was, 'brought from Cuba'.
Here is the response that I received:
Thank you for writing, but the ad DOES NOT STATE THAT THIS CONGA IS CUBAN MADE, as it only states that "IT WAS BROUGHT FROM CUBA", and its origin is unknown to us, as there is no brand name on it.
Big time misleading

It is highly unlikely the drum was made in the 50's like he says.

I got the same stock answer from him. I asked him why he does not post the answer in the open, to which he replied it's a private matter.

I then informed him that this drum is not worth more than $70.

He is also selling a vintage marimba for $5000 with the same 'origin unknown' label. How can you claim a vintage, and then say there are no markings as to the year or origin??
Sadly eBay has more and more of these jokers.

Well at least with the marimba the seller is being a bit more direct about the origin of the instrument (Mexico). The "brought from Cuba" portion of the conga ad appears to be intentionally misleading.

I wonder why the seller proclaims that both instruments were brought here via Pan Am Airlines. Is there something special about the peanuts or flight attendants of that carrier?

Ebay, craigslist, and probably many other online selling venues are full of scams. If you think the conga sales on ebay have misleading descriptions, you should look at the djembe ads saying things like "professional" and "huge" and "vintage" and "African" and every other dumb thing you could call a cheap little crap drum made from a palm tree on a lathe with a painted lizared on the drum.
