Once upon a time they were mine, then Steven's, Salsero Boricua and now pcastag.

Beautiful drums, I'd probably buy them if you didn't live on the other side of the world to me!

Hmmm... four owners on this forum alone - it seems that noone wants to keep these drums. That can't be a good sign.

I will love to have them back. I never sold them, I traded with Steven because he is my good friend and the trade at the time, was beneficial to both of us. Those Matt's are incredible congas, beautiful and awesome sounding.

I wouldn't put it that way exactly, I've hd lots of different congas come through my home, I would have loved to have kept them all, unfortunately money, space, and necessity often trump desire. There is no doubt these are the best sounding congas I've ever had, they're also probably (next to my SOS which I also sold) the most valuable. It was either these or a drumset that had to go, I play one conga gig a month and about 7-10 drumset gigs, the choice was obvious, albeit unfortunate.

Alafia Abures!
I hope that you are all well and abundantly blessed this new year!

Unfortunately, this screwed up economy has several of us scattering around to raise some funds for necessary purchases, or mere life maintenance (food, rent, mortgage), and not to mention the "D" word in some cases (divorce). When it comes to those of us who have amassed a collection of vintage and otherwise valuable sets over the years of good fortune, it only makes sense that when we need to generate capital, that we liquidate the items that will bring us more funds.

I have hung onto most of my drums like a tic on a fat dog, but recently unloaded my Gon Bops to a student of mine in an hour of need.....mine. I have a set of 4 Matthew Smith tubs and I, as well as anyone else on this forum and those who are not and have played these precious drums will tell you they are great. They are not only made by a modern day artisan who puts love and attention into every detail, but who also offers his friendship in the process. These drums are like his children that he sends out into the world to make music and musicians happy. Yes! These drums are a great quality purchase, both in sound and in material.

My children could someday need bail money (God forbid), and if my Matthew Smiths were the only drums I had to sell, I would ask my children..."what kind of cigarettes do you like?"

Alafia Abures maSSivdrums and pcastag!
I hope that you both are well and abundantly blessed!

I'm glad to have brought a bit of levity to the thread, I know I love to LMAO sometimes, even at myself! Nothing wrong with that!
Brudda Nol, how's life in paradise? I'm referring to all of your Volcano conga collection, I'm sure that the Island is beautiful like paradise itself though :D :D
Aloha Ohana!

Brother PC, you know love of family always comes first, but it would certainly be a hard call. :P :P

Many blessings my brothers!
