Change: Meinl LC Conga to LP Compact conga 11"&11,75"

Postby kubaszek82 » Tue Feb 16, 2010 10:56 am

Hi! I'm thinking about to change my set wooden congas to compact conga.
The most difficult problem is that I cannot personally try them.
Why I want to change?
1. I'm not playing too often...
2. I could sell Meinl's and buy Compact LP, and I will still have money for my second passion - photography.
3. If I want to play somewere, the weight and size is a trouble to transport.
4. I want some changes:)

Problems:
1. I heaven't played on Compacts LP,
2. I could't find any records in internet compearing tradicional congas with compacts.
3. Don't know the sound of compacts. Possibly, at the end, I could be unsatisfayed...

So, the Compact congas could replace wooden congas in your opinion?
It is not a step backward?
Have you got any records?

Sorry for my weird english...Long time passed since my last conversation:)

Hi kubaszek82.

I just want to say real congas sound way better than the compacts. I owned a set of compacts and they are great for practice and students but that's about it. I did not like the sound of the compacts compared to real drums. After playing real congas you might be disappointed in the sound of the compacts. Given your situation then go ahead because you don't play your congas very often and want new camera equipment. If it were me, I would keep the real congas try to save some money then get the camera equipment.

What ever you do remember to have fun!
All the Best!

I agree with Mike. The compact congas are great as a second set if you play a lot and travel a lot. Not as a substitute.

Just in case you have definitely decided, do not go with the LP's believe me, they sound terrible, if you must purchase compact congas go with Pearl, they have a much better sound. Conga forum member Onile has a set with a sweet custom made stand, and like I said the drums actually do sound very nice.
Good luck.

kubaszek82 your English is good!

DO NOT buy LP Compact Congas.
You will waste your money.

If you are going to invest in compact congas- you should LOOK at Pearl Compact congas.
Pearl sounds close to real congas and look great.
They also have a great stand system that actually works great.

Check out brother Onile's video on youtube search Pearl Compact Congas.

Thanks for advices.
I was only thinking about LP compacts because there is a real good price for them, I could change my Meinl LC Conga (11,75") to complete set of LP's with two stands. There is no way to buy Pearl's.
I really play not too often on congas. I have to move about 2 years ago to small city, and since then I have no possibilities to play in any band. Also I have a little son, no way to practice in home. Thats why I've decided to do something about it. What is the meaning of keeping something that you don't need?
Buying the LP's could be the some way to solve problem. Have a money from congas, but not to end the joy of playing. And I have more mobility set, I could take it into car (with my wife and son in it), and drive to my friends/band.
But...My set of Meinl's is my first one, I is our wedding gift. I've changed the skin on it, sounds great.
So I've decided not to sell them. Even if congas will be only a beautifull furniture in my living room, and legacy to my son :)
My regards to everyone!

Kuba

Witam!
btw slubne congi? to dopiero musi byc sentyment!
Pozdrawiam!
