Looking for this Isla tumba!

Postby deerskins » Sun Apr 04, 2010 12:25 am

Does anyone know who the owner is of this drum?
I would really love to add it to my set of Islas.
I have 6 in total:
(1) requinto
(1) quinto
(2) conga
(1) tumba
(1) super tumba
After the fact, I realized that I would rather have 2 tumbas and this one would fit my set perfectly :)

I know the owner, but I doubt it is for sale.

BONGOSNOTBOMBS,

IS SOOOOO RIGHT. AND, BECAUSE OF HIS HONEST, AND EXCELLENT ADVICE TO ME IN THE PAST, IT WILL NOT BE GOING ON SALE ANYTIME IN THE FORSEEABLE FUTURE. :D

MARIO PUNCHARD MADE THIS AS A SPECIAL DRUM FOR ME, BY SAVING SPECIFIC STAVES FOR AN AWESOME APPEARANCE. IT ALSO SOUNDS AS GOOD AS IT LOOKS.

DEERSKINS,
YOU ARE SO BLESSED TO OWN SUCH A LARGE SET OF ISLAS. TO ME, THEY ARE THE DRUMS THAT DELIVER THE TRUE AUTHENTIC SOUND, OF WHICH I WAS SEARCHING FOR, FOR YEARS. JUST FROM VIEWING THE ISLA-PERCUSSIONS VIDEOS ON-LINE, I KNEW THAT I HAD FINALLY FOUND THE SOUND, AND THE DRUMS THAT I WAS LOOKING FOR. THERE ARE A FEW OTHER GREAT CONGAS OUT THERE, AND EACH ARE GREAT FOR DIFFERENT REASONS. FOR ME HOWEVER, ISLAS HAVE THE SOUND THAT TOUCHES MY SOUL.

THANKS GUYS,
CHARLIE. 8)

Hey Charlie,
Thank for chiming in. Yeah, I talked to Mario a year or two ago about this drum after I saw a picture of it online somewhere.
He told me that he saved all the staves for you by request. I knew it was a special drum.
It took me about 2 years to pay for my drums in full after I placed my order.
I began selling off the congas I already had and pinching my pennies.
I sent Mario payments whenever I could, sometimes $100 a month, sometimes a few months would go by and I couldn't pay anything, and sometimes I was able to send in a larger chunk. So, I am definitely someone that appreciates what I have.
I just wish that I would have ordered 2 tumbas at that time. Then, the other day, I said to myself, that if 'that guy' that has that tumba in the photo was ever to sell it, it should join my family, so I thought I would ask around.
I thought that maybe you might be interested in purchasing a larger set of his new beauties and that I should at least plant the seed.
So, if and when you decide to pass this one on, please consider letting it join my family!
Cash, trade, whatever....
Some photos below :)

I miss that style of crown Mario used to use. The canoe wood was hot, but the new woods are cool too.

I love my Islas too. I'm glad you kept that drum Charlie!
