Gon Bop Identification

Postby KidCuba » Sat Aug 20, 2011 5:17 pm

My friend has had a pair of Gon Bops in the garage for years. He does not know where they were purchased, etc, but he acquired them in the early 1990s.

My amatuer assumption is that these are Gon Bop Marianos. Am I right? I have attached a picture below.

The drums are in rough shape, but have no cracks. I am considering buying them, but what would you guys consider a fair offer - I do not want to low ball a friend. Even though I should screw him over for that Santana sticker. :D

Thanks!

Mahogany Voodoo Quinto and Conga. The Voodoo line has good hardware but is not as common as the Mariano series.

$300 to 400 for the pair is a fair price for the condition. These are rather fragile drums. They scratch and mark very easily.

I personally like the light weight and the muted tone of the Gon Bops Mahogany but it will not project like Oak or Fiberglass. Some say this has a Folkloric tone.

With some TLC these could be a great pair.

I think these are the international series. I belive the voodoo series refered to the black to grey colored drums GB put out, thats as per the catalog. But my memory is not as great as it used to be just had a birthday wednesday. These do have similar hardware but this type it was used on many different models. Heres a photo of a catolog page to colaborate my thoughts.

I was close but no cigar.

Thanks for the correction.

Do you agree that these are worth $300 to 400?
