LP Classic Top Tuning Conga at Guitar Center

Does anyone know why GC only carries the Top Tuning Classic, and not the regular one? Is it because they aren't selling, deal gone bad, anybody got inside information. Is there a difference between the two in sound?

Perhaps LP has manufactured a huge stock and now needs to shift them.

I noticed on the recent (as usual excellent) youtube videos by congahead.com that the distinguished guests are using the top tuning model.

I did not notice any difference trying one out. Seems to make practical sense for players who constantly fiddle with the tuning. I am one of those that tune and leave it at that, nor do I detune after playing, So I am happy with my regular design. In saying that, I would probably get the top tuning model if I was buying.

As per previous thread on this subject, an old idea/design from the 70's Slingerland congas re-invented.

Really, that's interesting, I wonder why it didn't catch on...

It’s called traditionalism. Many of us, including myself, prefer the old school hardware and look, same way as some not liking synthetic skins.
It's like the saying goes, " If it aint broke don't fix it"
