Bauer and LP Giovanni Seriese conga - compare bauer and LP Giovanni Seriese

I'm considering to buy good quality conga and Tumbadora.
I'm about to decide between Bauer and LP Giovanni Seriese.
Anybody could give me information which one is better.
I would like to buy it on Internet.

Cowhide and rawhide are not the same thing, then?

The prices I've seen are comparable, with the Giovanni's ranging from $425-475 USD depending on dealer and size, and the Bauer's being $450 USD for all sizes. I have no idea which one is 'better'--I have to think you'd be absolutely thrilled to have either.

I have a Giovanni myself, and am not impressed with the gold-tone finish on the hardware--there isn't a problem with it, but like any plating, it just doesn't ever look 'real'. I'd prefer a satin or polished stainless steel, especially considering the price. I think the sound is incredible, but I have nothing to compare it to, up close.

I'm sorry Jay only does orders by word of mouth and if u know how to reach him. His drums start at about 500 a drum and goes up. They are truly great congas. I have never heard of Bauers???? where are they from and do they have a site. ?Cowhide and Rawhide is he same thing. Mule is different and so is goat. They now also use Thailand waterbuffalo skins. We used to be able to get Mule but the only place now is Venezuela. Unless u call a Slauterhouse in Chicago or Texas and ask them if they have any "Sheets". We used to be able to buy "sheets" of skins for like 50 bucks in the 60's but u could get like 6 or 7 heads out of it, if u know how to cut it right. See today u guys got it easy . We just about had to go out and kill a Mule for our skins Now u got Artificial stuff called "Nuskyn" pre-mounted heads, #### what else u guys want today? Nothing like puttin on your own heads, or even cleaning skins etc....but I'm talking about days that don't exist anymore for u young congasnappers.......Drummer for Peace...At your Service...JC JOHNNY CONGA....

Hi JC i'm young and i still appreciate the art of making my own drums, and i believe there are many more who just gont get the chances for building drums, but one good thing; at least i dont have to kill the waterbuffalo bare handed like you old folk

BY FAR THE BEST DRUMS IVE EVER PLAYED BESIDES THE GIOVANNI'S(NEXT ON MY LIST OF PURCHASES)ARE THE JCR PERCUSSION CONGAS.YES,I OWN THE CONGA AND TUMBA AND EVERYONE FALLS IN LOVE WITH THEM.THEY ARE COUSINS OF THE LUIS VERGARA'S ORIGINALLY FROM CUBA AND ARE LIKE THE TIMBA'S LINE OF CONGAS. WOULD NEVER TRADE THEM IN FOR ANYTHING IN THE WORLD.

Well I've had the Giovanni now for a little over 2 months, and as I've played it tuned higher and higher, a distinct ringing of the shell has become more noticeable.

Have other folks noticed this with their wood or fiberglass drums? This is NOT the head ringing--you can put your full weight on the head using your forearm, tap any part of the drum you wish (ANY part of the drum), and the tone and sustain is pretty much the same. Extremely high frequency.

You'd definitely pick it up on a mic in a quiet room, I do believe.

Sadly I have never played any of their congas myself, but people who do play on them advise me to buy Baer over LP (I'm thinking of buying their bongos, actually - I heard a guy in a salsa band play a set the other night and they sounded AWESOME).
