I see badges for old Lp's stating Palisades Park, New Jersey and Garfield, New Jersey.

Which one was first? When did they move? How long was LP at each location? and when did Lp sell to Kaman and move production overseas?

My three Palisades Park, New Jersey Lp congas.

Bongosnotbombs...................I just took a look at the badge on my LP Patato . This is the 20th anniversary model which I think dates my drum as 1984. The badge says "Garfield, New Jersey". Hope this sheds a little light. I will keep an eye on this posting because this is something I have always wanted to know too. Great Topic.
Will.

Eventually Cohen’s neighbors complained that he was running a manufacturing operation in a residential district, and after a visit from a building inspector, Cohen moved his business to Palisades Park, New Jersey. A few years later, the company moved to a larger facility in Garfield, New Jersey, where the administrative offices remain today.
Cohen eventually moved much of the product manufacturing to Thailand (although LP cowbells are still made in New Jersey).

I still own a vintage set gold sparkle L.P. Palisades Park fiberglass congas from the late 60's in Mint condition. I enjoy them and love the light weight compared to the newer heavy L.P. congas.

I wonder if anyone could give me an idea on when these congas were manufactured. I am estimating 1970 but I am not sure. Any ideas?

Those were the first handels used by LP, I would say between 1968 to 1972, more exact between 1971 and 72 because of the red color. Their first congas I think were made in 1968 and they were black. Around 1970 they started making other colors, also glitter, mabeled and wood overlay. Their first instruments were bongos and that was 1964 in Maywood, New Jersey.

Omolenko,
thats good info about those handles, of my 3 drums above, 2 of them have the same handles as the red pair (but the handles are in a different location, not under the label like the red pair)

The beat up white one is also New Palisades but has a different handle on it, it has a hatch pattern on the outside of it. Did they stop using the old handle when they started making new handles?

So I guess maybe that makes the black one potentially oldest, then the red then the white?

Hey Gallichio,
are you positive those are from the 60's? Omelenko's post says they didn't make other colors till 1970.

My red and black conga have the same handles, the white one has a different handle, and is an inch shorter, I've had someone tell me it was a 'Salsa" model?

Both are Palisades Park.

This drum might be potentially from 1968?
I bought this from Isaac Gutwilik the JCR rep.

It uses different lugs than the other 2, but it's hard to say which are the originals, they don't all match.

Hello bongosnotbombs,
Yes they are from the late 60's. I have a Couple of vintage Latin Percussion catalogs and the price list for the catalogs. I see in the 1968 Catalog they have listed Pro Fiberglass congas in solids and glitters. Also the Handle was an option. The Price for the solids was $150.00 the Glitters was $163.00 and the handle was $2.10. I also have an earlier LP catalog but no mention of glitter congas. I will try to take more photos of my congas and post them here. I have changed the lugs, lug nuts, bumpers and washers but I do have the originals.
