New fiberglass project

Postby congalou » Wed Apr 15, 2009 12:31 pm

Hello guys !!

I build other molds to make new custom fiber congas, some differences with my first mold (Pink drum) : Standard sizes, new bottom, as you can see on the photos, for put a metal hoop.

Qinto, Conga and Tumba in a first time and Réquinto and Super Tumba in a second time.

The plaster on the photo is the futur conga shape.

Looooot of time to spend before release drums but I'm motivated !!!

Alafia Congalou!

Wow! Your own line of conga drums, that's incredible! Congratulations on your product.

What head sizes are they going to be?

Many blessings!

And after, 9 3/4 Réquinto like manufacturers or 10, maybe 10 1/4, I don't know,I don't have réquinto, what do you think the better ??

Super Tumba 13" maybe, don't know yet too.

Excellent!!!!

The bottom of this drum is pretty narrow, it looks like a Patato to me. Am I right?

Post more pics as you go bro.

Alafia Abure Congalou!

Wow! I truly think that you've got a great idea there with the 13" Super Tumba (fiberglass). Those that know me, know that I prefer the larger drums to play on. If you go that route, please post some pics for us to enjoy, Okay? Okay!

Great Project!

Looking through that door it looks like you have a workshop in a beautiful place. Where in France are you ? I love the Pyrenees, the scenery looks similar to that.

Hello Barrie, I'm near Paris, in a nice countryside. The country near the capital city, perfect for me !!!

B, compared to a Patato, the bottom is little larger, but the body is more fat.
I think fat body and narrow bottom are good for the sound.

6*8 I don't know yet about the price. I want to make the most custom congas ever made : No limits !!!

The color you want,
The hardware you want : Special design side plates (flames, letters you want, etc...) engraving on rims, side plates....

I see a red sparkle série with gold hardware with side plates in form of flames (each different) with engraving on the rim. Yeeeaaaahhhh !!!!

That's why the price will depend of the order...

As you see, big project.... but I realy want to do it. First série maybe in 6 months, maybe in 1 year.... I will inform you of each step.

Wow : 10am... I will work few hours on my drum before go to work this afternoon !!!

I always give an attention to Galou's Projects. He's a Dedicated Drum-Maker and not only..

I have an image in my mind for his New Fiberglass Project but I'm sure he gonna surprise all of us of what he has already in his mind..

In Galou's Case there is a Well-Thinking Construction .Just Patience and follow his updates-infos .

When we speak for Custom Vs Massive Istruments I think there is no comparison on the Price and most of all on the QUALITY .

Most of the Drum Makers I know they make instruments with their Soul and also try to "speak" with the materials (Skin,Wood,Iron,Fiberglass,e.t.c.)
Massive Intruments for me are something like a CLONES..Everything The SAME..Everything "PLASTIC"..Instruments for Money,Money,Money..

Also Hand Made Instruments have the Most Respectfull Place On The Music Instruments History-Archive.

I prefer to buy something that will enjoy its Sound and not to change instruments in order to find someday what is near to the Traditional Sound We All Prefer .

When I studied in Cuba I used to play in the School and also to Changuito's House some Very Nice Hand-Made Fiberglass Congas .I really missed them as they gave me the Warm Traditional Sound I prefer .

Galou do your Best Bro !

Your Place Looks Like You Wake Up Every Morning With Sweet Singings of Birds . :D

All The Best !

Some news of my project !!

After sanding a looooooot.... and varnish, the shape is pretty good, but not enought : I have bump and hole, not bad but I can feel it when I touch.
And with a gloss finish, it will be clearly visible.

That's why I will change my plan and make a mold in two steps :

Plaster - first mold - first piece (and i will turn this piece on a big lathe to have a perfect finish) - second mold - THE FINAL DRUM !!!

Cheers,

Galou.
