Aloha Gang,

Dr. Z,

Yes these Drums look good, and their sound equals, or even surpasse's their beauty!

Charangaman,

I drooled also, when I first laid eyes on these baby's! When I got my fist shipment of Drums, I did'nt know if I should just sit there and absorb their beauty, or jus' start poundin' on 'um! So, I did both!

RayBoogie,

The Big Boy stands 30 inches tall, like the rest of the product line. The Belly and the Hips on this Drum is very wide, which offers a really FAT and full sound!

rumbaman and Onile,

The price range on the Mango drums ranges from the mid $800.00 to almost a Grand for the Boomba when I aquired my set. This price range is not too far off of the price of the DW Gon Bop Drums that I found listed at the West Coast Drum Center web site. About 2 years ago I was eyeballing the Fat Congas on thier web site which ranges from $925 to $975. But Steve stopped making drums. I think it was a blessing that he did, cuz now these Volcano's, which are my prize possesions! Onile, consider yourself fortunate to owning a hard to find set of Fat's!
I just spoke to Tom, who had just recently upgraded his web site, but I'm not sure why the price list is not on the site. If you email him for info, Tom always responds quickly to your reply. And yes rumbaman, it does make a beautiful wallpaper for your computer!
Onile, prior to posting this message, I was poundin' on the Boomba! Could you hear it in AZ? If not I'll try to pound a little louder after this post!
Keep on Poundin'!

You're Killin' me, just killin me brotha MaSSivedrums!
I thought that sound was a sonic boom that I heard, instead it was Hawaiian Thunda! :D
You know I'm gonna contact Tom now, I've gotta get me a piece of Thunda Jack!

Brotha MaSSivedrums, I took my Fats out today to help a fellow band member with his recital over at ASU this afternoon, dude, I didn't even have to mic them. The auditorium was extremely sweet and picked-up every nuance of the drum. Yes, I'm glad that I have a set, but now..............I've been struck by Hawaiian Thunda, they're next on the list........................film at eleven!

Many blessings to you my brotha M!

Onile!

Alafia Abures!
Aloha Brotha MaSSivedrums!

I followed your advice last night after my gig and contacted Tom, you were absolutely right about him. He is extremely nice and quick to respond. First, I must apologize to you all for my reference to the prices, I had mistaken the drums for "Koa" wood drums, much more expensive and Tom pointed that out to me. Brotha M's drums are yet to be released on the market (or at least on the web site). Tom explained that the "Boomba" is the most expensive of the family of "Mango and MonkeyPod wood drums". I am at work and can't bring up the message he sent me, but my memory says it's around $980 or so, and the others go slightly down from there.

Brotha M! Thanks for all the info on these beautiful drums. I am going to get me a set next year, I am in the process of receiving my GonBops California Series congas, so this year that was my treat to myself. Next year I am planning on a set of "Mango/MonkeyPaw" congas (I may borrow the title of "Thunder" for my boomba also, with your permission of course!:D )

Many blessings!
Onile!

Aloha Onile,

I'm glad you made the move to contact Tom. Yes, he is a very nice person, and also very gifted, to have the vision to create these wonderful drums. I know for a fact that when you decide to make these drums a part of your arsenal, they will change you life, in a positive way. There is a lot of spirit in the Tree's that this wood is taken from, due to the Hawaiian Islands are a spiritual place. Through Tom's creation's, they are released in the form of, warm, soulful and melodic tones that you will feel at first touch.
Yes, the Koa wood drums are in a different price range. The Koa wood, is a very special wood, which is used in the musical world to make sweet sounding wood instruments. Koa is a very dense wood, which has beautiful wood grains in it, which produces an oh so sweet tone that is sought out by the musician that is looking for that special sounding instrument.
Yes you may borrow the title. In Hawaii, in pidgin english it is pronounced "TUNDA"!

Aloha My Bruddah, maSSivdrums

Mahalo Brudda!

I'll keep in touch with the progress. Tom explained the order process and all!

Oh yeah, and by the way, he knew exactly who was to blame for all this curiosity with VP drums!:D

Aloha!

Aloha My Forum Bro. & Sisters,

I hope 2006 brings many blessings your way.
As for us here in Hawaii, 2006 started off with a new storm that rolled in this month and brought with it alot of Thunder. This Thunder came in the form of a Volcano Percussion, very rare, Curly Koa 14 inch Boomba. This is the latest creation of Tom Alexander, whom I consider, one of the Master Cooper's in the world today. Take a gander at this Monster, the curly grains are so insane, that this grade of Koa Wood is a rare find.
If you'd like to see and hear this Baby, it'll be on display at this years NAMM Show in the VP booth number 2659 in Hall D. Hope to see you there.......
Aloha, maSSivdrums

Thank you for all your appreciation and comments on my photography and drum. Actually the photo is considered 1/100 of the drums actual beauty. "Abakua", Massivdrums is having a 12.5" Tumba, 13.25" Super Tumba and a 14" Boomba made from this same tree. Don't tell him I told you. This tree was 150 yrs. old and been dead for 20. Speaking of 20, that's also the average percent of curly koa trees found of all koa trees, coupled with the fact that only dead trees can be cut, it makes this extremely rare. This species only grows in Hawaii and is one of the most valuable woods in the world. In addition, I bookmatched all 12 sets of staves. Here are the (current) costs. They start at $1,749.00. Each drum increases by only $25.00. Their are 6 in our sets. Please visit my site at http://www.volcanopercussion.com and check out our brand new sounds on all the drum pages. S&H cannot be determined without a zipcode and foreign duty is the responsibility of the buyer. A guitar made with this wood could run $15,000 and there's enough wood in this drum to make a #### of a lot of git fiddles! :)
