Deadhead,

That might not be so effective because of the type of articulations (motions) the Cuban guiro requires when played in traditional settings.

You might get better results by mounting the guiro on a claw attached to the rims of your tumbadoras (see attached pic).

Hope this helps!!!

That was my concern as well. It would probably be possible to rig something up, but the scrapes would be very generic and would be almost impossible to vary the articulation of the strokes.

First, you will need to drill a hole on the chekere bottom to allow the hi-hat pull rod go through it. Make sure the hole is centered otherwise you will end with an unbalanced chekere on the stand.

Next step, cut a 5B or larger drumstick from it's shaft to the butt area. The lenght of it will be determined by the size of the chekere mouth. Wider mouth chekeres definitely will be easier to work with.

Drill a hole in the middle of the drumstick. Big enough to allow attachment of the hi-hat clutch. A smaller entry level hi-hat clutch is recommended.

Measure the diameter of the drumstick and make two circular holes on parallel sides of the chekere mouth in order to allow the drumstick go accros.

Finally, secure with duct tape as in the picture.

Hope this helps!!!

He's not a conga player, but Akira Jimbo is an awsome drumset player and can do some amazing things with his feet. Check out his Independence videos on You Tube. Theres 6 videos that progress to more difficulty. He does some really cool stuff with clave and does some heel toe stuff playing block and hi-hat with the same foot. And check out the 6th video, hes playing as the credits roll and its really amazing what he does at the end.
