The comedy for Skin on Skins never ends in the Bay Area, not only do we have the set that started this post, a couple of months back someone on Berkeley sold a set of 4 Skin on Skins for $800, I have no idea who got them..I tried
Then today I read this...
Congas - Skin on Skin/Bereck (4) - $6000 (berkeley) Reply to: sale-550863809@craigslist.org Date: 2008-01-24, 10:56PM PST
Four handmade congas made by Ray Bereck (Skin on Skin-Brooklyn NY)includes 2 Congas (slightly different sizes) a tumba and a quinto. Four stands and seat are also included. The drums are in perfect condition and well cared for. All drums are signed and dated. No shipping. Prefer to sell as a set, may consider selling separate. $6,000 for set (including stands and seat) or best offer.
$6,000 for 4 used drums!! SOS's are nice, but they are not made of GOLD!!!
Bongosnotbombs...............The first set for 800 dollars never sold. I have the inside scoop on them. I was to meet with the lady and her husband on a thursday night and her husband never knew the price she originally listed. He knew the day before I was to meet with them and she emailed me and said her husband got a little freaked out when she told him about the drums and he decided to hold on to the drums because he knew the guy that made them and wanted to think about it awhile. They promised they would save my email and let me know when they were ready to sell them. I was not notified but I know that the add in Craigslist is from the same people. I knew it was too good to be true when I was scheduled to meet her and buy the drums. I just knew it would never happen and it didn't. I guess they did their research on the drums since then and I wish them luck on the drums. They seem like really nice people and I am sure they will sell them to the highest offer but my guess it will be more like 3000 dollars not 6000.
Hey Breeze, I guessed they were the same drums, after all how many sets of 4 SOS's can there be in Berkeley. Ah I wished you had got them for $800, I wish I had got them for $800! but $6,000? No way! You could get 2 sets of brand new SOS's for that! These are used, no way around that. New SOS's are $750 a drum, used should be $500-$600 at the most and in great condition!
You'd think if they had done their research the would now it's Jay Bereck and not Ray Bereck :p
Apparently, the husband knows Jay from when he purchased the drums from him. Anyway, they are far out of reach now. I once had a beautiful SOS Requinto I sold for 800 dollars. Thinking back, I wish I would have kept it. From what I understand, there are not that many Requintos around.
