Hello CongaPlace Members,

I have received word that my Custom Volcano Percussion Exotica Ltd. Congas are
finished. They are on the way to my home. I will do a full report on them when
they arrive. I am very excited about them. Mr. Thomas Alexander of Volcano Percussion is a really nice person to do busyness with. His craftsmanship is second to none. Made by hand in Hawaii. ( U.S.A ) The beauty of his drums is nothing less than stunning. The sound is pristine. The exotic woods and stainless steel materials he uses are the finest available. His company is totally professional. I highly recommend him and his company. For the people that know me, you know that I have done busyness with just about every percussion company on the planet. I would say if I had my own percussion company I would run it like Volcano Percussion. Top notch no exceptions. The drums are not cheap but, like I always say "You get what you pay for." Talk to any Volcano Percussion drum owner and they will tell you they are totally happy with their purchase. I have heard these drums and they sound every bit as good as they look. I would rather have one Great drum than a half dozen poorly made drums. I hope to make another purchase as soon as funds allow. Why are other congas so much less expensive? Because they know what their drums are worth.

P.S. I am not being paid by Volcano Percussion to say any of this. I have not
been given a break in the price of my congas. I am happy to be free to play and or purchase any congas I want. Any and all information I give here about these congas and this company is based on my own experience with them. And is totally 100% true. For our members information and knowledge only. I want to share my experience with you. I am not saying other great congas don't exist , they do. But at this point in time I would put Volcano Percussion at the number one position.

aah Mike, that's gonna ruffle some feathers around here.

I agree with you in a lot of regards, Volcano does go that extra step in applying finishes to their drums, also the wood they use is very cool.

Why are other congas so much less expensive? Because they know what their drums are worth.

but this line? I'm not quite sure I know what you mean by this?

I think Volcano's are expensive because those finishes are laborious to make, the woods used are more expensive (than oak or ash for example), and Hawaii is a very expensive place, I know I used to live on Oahu and I could see Volcanos (the drums, and real ones ) every week at Harry's music in Kaimuki.

Volcanos sound very good, but not everyone thinks they sound the best.

I'll explain, Other companies know their drums are worth less - so they are priced accordingly. Meaning they use less expensive material so they sell drums for less money. Like gold is worth more than silver. Keep your feathers on I also said. "I am not saying other great congas don't exist , they do. But at this point in time I would put Volcano Percussion at the number one position." That is my opinion.

don't worry, man my feathers aren't ruffled, Volcanoes are the most highly finished conga I know of, those lug plates are like mirrors, and such a cool shape, the inside of the shell is also worked on, I've seen plenty of their drums, it's obvious the extra work thats put into these..

you sure wouldn't want to play palitos on the shells thats for sure.

I personally really like the sound of Volcano congas, some of my friends think they sustain a note too long...these guys are mostly folkloric/ rumba players.
