That depends where you are in the world i guess. If Mario is on your doorstep and you are paying in dollars maybe, but we don't know this about the OP. That aside 250 for the wrong drum is not a steal whatever the make, wherever you are.

nickpilarski wrote:In fact the aspire quinto and conga are I think smaller than the requinto don't quote me though.

The Isla requinto is 9 inches, the Aspire quinto 10, conga 11. He won't get both of his hands on the requinto so how can he learn the basics unless he is a hobbit (no offence to the OP or hobbits reading this).

Your fetishising of the Isla drums seems to be blinding you to some important issues here. The OP presumably wants good basic drums that he can learn on and progress with. You are way off the mark with this advice imo.

Well, I think that if the OP person doesn't get the message about Aspires by now, I think we should stop this thread as soon as possible. Aspires don't deserve this much thought...

i would like to thank you all for you advice and/or comments.

i however, did buy a set of 3 barely used lp aspires with stand.
the deal was just too good to pass up.
all the above for 250.
and seeing as i'm a true beginner,
i figured they would help me advance without breaking the bank.

so now that i have the drums, what's next?

Try to sell them.

Serious.

You will never be able to achieve proper tones on these drums, they will hinder your playing and will take you backwards instead of forward.

A set of 2 beat up and bashed Matadors would shit all over 3 brand new Aspires. As was said before, Aspires, cause as soon as you play them, you will aspire to get new drums.

Dude... wtf??? You posted here asking for advice on whether to buy these drums or not and drummer after experienced drummer said "NO!!!! DON'T BUY THEM!!! THEY'RE CRAP!" and you went and bought them anyway?

$250 for some sh*tty firewood is not a deal. Seriously.

Sigh.

Sorry to pile it on here, but man...

Please do not be tempted to just keep them because you have them. Sell them (at a loss if you have to) and use the money to buy one or two full-sized, quality used congas (a segundo/conga if it's just one drum, or also a tumba if you can afford two). Lp Matadors would be a great option that few would argue with, and there are other brands that make quality drums that you can find affordable used.

Think long term. Take the hit (and lesson learned) on the Aspires now and later you'll be glad you got rid of them. They're toys, completely unsuitable for anyone actually intending to learn how to play.

Sometimes great players start out on LP Aspires.
Here's a photo I found of one of our very own moderators back in 5th grade with his first set.
Guess who it could be?!? :o

tell me how you really feel.

i can understand why experienced drummers consider these toys.
however, for my purposes and status,
and after speaking with my teacher,
i made a decision that i felt was best for me.
i don't think i would ever sell them either.
they will most likely become decorations and/or art work in my home.
and once i advance they will be reminders of my growth.

i do appreciate your opinions and advice.
i do hope my decision does not hinder anyone from offering
either in the future.

Although I do agree with everyone about LPAspires which are todays equivalent of the older CPs, even though those sounded better, I must say that I have seen some great rumberos tear up these crappy congas. Why is it that the cubans love buying these drums.....? :)

On anther note, any opinions on the Performer Series?
