I am pretty sure big time rumberos all over the place including Cuba have used synthetic heads with great results and nobody have missed a beat because of it.
RitmoBoricua wrote:This synthetic versus natural (rawhides) heads IMHO is matter of taste and preference. More than often I see the big names in latin percussion including some legends using the synthetic heads and they sound awesome. As a matter of fact I have seen them even using the stock water buffalo heads that so many people seem to dislike and still sound awesome. What that tells me is that the player is the one that ultimately makes the drum sound real good not the other way around. Check out the (3) heavies on tumbadoras, bongos and timbales. See the drums and heads they
are using and the sound they get. They do not miss a beat.
