Yes the crowns are different , but there is no mistaking that the crowns are Sonoc . I believe this is the way in Cuba
PCstag I have a friend who has a set of Bata same as your sonocs they are great sounding ,like this Conga .
I`m still not sure if I will fully re furb this drum I intend to give it a good clean up of the hardware though . any suggestions on the re-finishing welcome . the shell is in remarkable condition a few deepish scars ,nothing major .

Thank for the input its been interesting .

Unless the staves are separating there really is no reason to refurb it, it looks fine as is. great score!

PC I agree . I am just going to give the hardware a good polish up and leave the history of scars on this baby . :D

played it again this morning ,and it has a beautiful voice , a good score indeed , thanks for giving me the heads up on this or it would have gone elsewhere .

The conga looks like Guanex. I had heard Tata Guines was playing them and his macho had 7 lugs. I heard they were made in Santiago De Cuba using exotic Cuban woods like Cedro and Majagua. You made a tremendous score, that drum looks like it sounds great. Very thick staves. I would remove the nicks with some light sanding, give it 3 coats of polyurithane and put a nice cuero de mula on it. I noticed it has a double alma, inside and out. Incredible find! A gozar.

We had a thread a while back about the Tata Guines Guanex model.

Another shot of Tata I just scanned from a book. I scanned at a high resolution so you need to zoom in on the image. You can just barely make out a logo signature on the tres dos. Doesn't it look like Tata is signaling for a hotter mic in both pics?
