I think the cowrie shells are cool on the jazzambia tubs, but why a djembe player on a conga?
I think I'll paint bongos on my Meinl LC's... in honor of all the folks who comment... "Nice job on the bongos man"

My drum instructor has covered his fiberglass matadors with a collage of all his musical heroes.
I've found my attention lost a couple times sitting across from him in class... "hhhmmm, is that Jimi Hendrix there?"
LOL... they look pretty cool in my opinion, and hide the tour blemishes well.

I think Paoli is using the art cover for his Jazzambia cd on them congas. On the cd if I am not mistaken he plays djembe and other percussion instruments besides congas. Also I think the silouette playing the djembe on the congas is Paolis silouette and the older lady Paoli's Mother.

RitmoBoricua: I forgot to mention that i would be wearing a Puertorican cape on as i send them off into space with a sugar cane in one hand that sparkles and the other a remote control malanga aiming it where ever i want it to go! 8)

I must admit, these Aspires look nice but I would not waste my money on them. After all of that custom paint they are still Aspires :| .

The very first set of congas I bought were covered in bright red fake fur, 2" in length, glued on with lots of contact adhesive.
I suppose they were used in the same way as discussed above - as a canvas to portray the band that used them as 'funky', 'freaky' or maybe just 'stupid'.
Almost needless to say, I stripped off all the furry stuff and found a nice, (but slightly battered) pair of white fibreglass LPs underneath.

15 years later, I still have them. I play them occasionally and the tumba still has the original and very thick skin.

I got to kiss her a few times (on the cheek of course) and hugs all round, not to mention the mass approval & compliments on my playing! 8)

Thats is correct brother, Paoli had his tumbadoras customised based on the design of his CD cover.
This effect can be reproduced on any conga for $125 per Drum, contact Paoli for details.

I think paolis drums look way over the top tbh .Congas dont need to be flashy for flashy sake . As long as the instrument sounds good and is played well thats all that matters .Why cheapen our instrument and put some sort of novelty value on it . In saying that its different strokes for different folks i suppose .Just not my bag .

Those Aspires do look great but why did LP use that cool look on Aspires?
What a waste.

I was seriously considering a very colorful and "LOUD" look on some recent drums I ordered from Michel (Moperc).
I showed my idea to a few conguero friends that I trusted and asked them if it was "too much"?
They were indifferent but thought the design was very unique.
After some thought I ended up settling for a more traditional look.

It's all about personal preference.
