Thanks Goran - there was a reason to ask you about price for LP in Croatia, couse i had a plan in my head..... To buy LP in Zagreb (which is, by the way, about 120Km from Maribor) and use taks refund, until thats still possible. 22 percent, i think? I still have to solve little problem - there is still cca 1800€ missing, he,he.... Bye

Well I start to dislike LP .. maybe subjective.. I like more the products that don’t have that much marketing and relay on quality and word of mouth.. but high-end instruments other than LP are not that easy to be found here (speaking about marketing… )
I am satisfied with the Palladiums though, but they might be somewhat overpriced.

Pegula: you can probably have a tax refund, but will you not have to pay the taxes and import duties in Slovenia?

That cca is missing here too :D
It was a 18 months credit, so it will not be that much…

Take care,

Goran

Goran, of course, if i have to obey every law and rule... Lets say i figgured it out how can i avoid this part...
I was little surprised about your last oppinion about LP. Is that just one of those days or you made conclusion on some fact? If you have another chance to buy whatever you wish - which model it will be?

I would buy the same because I wanted a „high–end“ instrument, and there is no much choice in Croatia.

Now, if I had enough money in cash to buy something else, pay the shipping and taxes etc it could have been another story...

But my choices and preferences are based purely on the comments on this forum, visual appearance and „subjective“ (dis)liking... I'm not an experienced player and can't give any advices regarding product quality or compare different models as I have not played on them nor do I have enough skill, experience and competence to evaluate them even if I had.

So if I was living somewhere where there is more choice and had enough money it might have been something else, but that is not just a quality issue...

Hey Goran,

You are right this does seem to be the most common question asked. The answer to what drum is best has a lot to do with the player's taste and is therefore very subjective. I am always surprised by fact that LP drums get such high marks from many in the forum because I don't care for them at all including the palladium. For someone just starting to learn conga the drum is not that critical although if you plan to stick with learning I would not recommend bying junk. There are a lot of good drums made right in Europe so there no need to look for drums west of the atlantic. Minel has a decent line of drums to choose from but you may want to check these sites as well.

I don't know anyone who has PJ drums but they look good. I have even seen them played in a video from Cuba. Check them out.

Sonor has a good looking line as well.

VR drums are made in Italy and look like they are well crafted unsing various types of woods

There was also a guy in France that made good drums by the name of Delaporte that look like excellent drums.

mamicumnu, sad se osjecam ugrozeno :p :D

Maybe this would be more for the technique forum but as it regards Palladium specifically I’ll post here.

I find it almost impossible to lift the drum for the bass tone as I see done on some videos. Is it me or the Palladiums being heavier than average and with a surface all „smooth and shinny“?

Thanks,
Goran

Hello every body!

Goran, i do understand what you mean by getting a high end instrument and expectation that they will really be top of the top. Usually they are, at least with a price, quality is/or should /must of course be Simply Astonishing :D

Well, quality today i think cannot be compared to the quality years ago, when Hand work was respected more. And there is your personal taste and your style of playing...

I bought Meinl Woodcrafts and i got the drums that it's 'traditional' sound can be really warm and basic, price high, but playing these babies with my primary band in majority sucks. Their colour just won't fit! And they are heavy Babes too!!!
Meinl's skins on congas are on my woodcrafts a bit under average (to my former expectations) Heard woodcrafts with mule.... A Must have!!! Really!!! Many of you guys from here, know that, judging by some threads I read about this...

My best sounding conga was a cost for me about 80 $, and she's the best... Original Mule skin too :D and she's a mature latin lady, sharp!

:D

Groove on guys on every thing you get under and into your hands!

Hi Gurupimpi,

did I read correct, you are not impressed with the sound of the woodcraft congas from meinl?

I agree with you that wood craft with mules skins would sound great, but on the same token, any congas with mule skins sound great.

Could you describe what you do not like about the woodcraft congas? what sizes do you have?

Bless ya

Pidoca, hello!

About woodcrafts; well, I must say that I in a way expected more projection out of these drums, I have a feeling that skins on these drums that i got from Meinl wasn't a real soundblastic thing. The shells are superb, solid, heavy, well done, hardware is OK, but the skins are not so good, even to touch. I am having problems with tuning the drums, cause I can't get nice and roundy tone, very hard to get the equal tone above all lugs. I've tried always from the start (loosen lugs, equaly tight...) It's like that the skin would be not thick at all surface and this gives a different tonalities to the drum.

I have all three, I like Conga most, Tumba is Ok, but Quinto is nothing to write home about. But than again, I'm not a straight latin music conguero, I play mainly JazzFusionRock where electric guitar is present all the time, with lot of distortion and effects, and these babies just don't project well... That's why I'm getting myself a fiberglass congas...

Don't get me wrong, I think that the skins are also too dry, and I will try to get Manteca and soften them up, maybe this will help. I'm not playing a lot these drums, so it must be also connected with that. Anyway, in studio they sounded ok, for POP music.

If you are satisfied with your, that's the real deal!

Groove on!
