Got my Gon Bops Alex Acuna Ebony Congas today. Here they are fresh out the box. They look much better in person than the stock photo on the internet. They also look better than the photos I've attached below. The flash of the camera and gloss on the finish make the drums look a bit brighter than they really are. They are sleek though and show just enough grain so they are not mistaken for fiberglass.

Very happy. Cant wait to get them to a gig.

I tried these out in NYC a few months back & was very impressed with these Remo skin-deep heads on the quinto.

Yeeman - They sound good so far. I've attached a close up pic of the head. I have a little overtone in them but I suspect it will take some time before they are broken in - or so I've read on the forum.

Congamyk - I got them for $779.98 (699.99 for the pair and 79.99 for shipping). This was the same price as another ad I saw for Alex Acuna GB's Natural Ash. I felt it was a fair deal since the list price is over $400.00 per drum (conga and tumba). Also, I live in Louisiana and they shipped from California. That couldnt have been cheap...

Congratulations on a great set of drums Bourge17, they look awesome. In regards to the synthetic heads, don’t expect too much braking in, in fact don’t expect any braking in. I have owned about nine drums with synthetic Remo heads and the sound never changed. I would recommend some foam on the inside to dampen the overtones. You know, I only have one drum with this problem and thats my Quinto, the foam works pretty well.
P.S.
If you put some good natural skins, I can tell you, you will have much less if not no overtones plus you’ll have a great traditional conga sound. Good luck and once again, congratulations.

Very very nice sets of Gon Bops, your son may have got the bands but you got the higher quality hardware, so fair trade.
Cool project indeed.

Congratulations on a sweet sweet set of drums they truly do look mouth watering. Both you and your son are both blessed to have such a wonderful set of drums. It's a wonderful thing when a Father and Son have the same interest.
Congratulations to congadr as well for a job well done!
