I spoke with him today answered the phone in 2-3 rings, also answered my email pretty fast. He must be screening (LOL), he is a one man operation most of the time but very personable and helpful to all.

He just replied to one of my emails in about 3 days. And he apologized for the late reply! Must be improving his communication skills ;-).

I just got off the phone with Matthew! :D
I have commisioned him to replicate the finish of KingKonga's Candido Requena drum he restored.

Matt will be making me a 9.75" requinto, 29.5" tall, out of Ash and have it stained to a dark finish. I want that real old school traditional Cuban look.
As it will be used in folkloric application, Ash was chosen and was Matt's reccomendation over all his other woods due to the strength & durability of the wood given its going to be tuned as a screamer bell like popping tone for rumba etc.

Im excited!!!!

Awesome photos.
Matthew is clearly a master of his craft.
Are you having just the requinto made? Or the whole set?

I picked those pics, they were my favourites of the bunch.

For now, Matt is just making me a custom requinto with some of my ideas added which he will translate into his creation. 8)

Hey bro, to be honest, I have been run off my feet with rehearsals, gigs and preparing stuff for my trip to Cuba that I had completely forgotten about Matt still working on this baby. I will try giving him a call this weekend and see how he is going with it.. Surely couldnt be that far off....
