How many different ways of miking up congas are there?What textures do you get from what set-ups? Which type of mikes do you use, etc etc.....cheers all

I don't have specific knowledge about recording Congas in particular, but I learn something from my friend Daniel Genton, few weeks ago regadign some Microphone. One of the best I've been trying is the Audio Technica 825 or 828. You would be able to record on DAt or Minidisc any kind of configuration of drums : "Closely matched elements provide the spatial impact and realism of a live sound field"

Difference between model AT825&828 is the switchable low-frequency roll-off

Try the audiovix D2s. They capture the true sound of the conga so long as you have a good engineer to set you up right. If you set yourself up via your PA.then you can experiment until you get the sound you want.Everybody has different tastes so there is really no such thing as a bad percussion mic set-up....As long as you fall within a reasonable sound for the listeners and satisfying your own preferences you'll be fine.....Now let me touch on conga mic set-ups from a different perspective........I have been playing for over 30 years and the majority of those years were without the benefit of mics......So I have played hard most of my career to have a chance to be heard through the sounds of an 11 piece or larger band..#### even small groups can crank it up to levels beyond the comprehension of man....LOL........What I am trying to say is play smart instead of hard.....Start now if you are young so you don't have to go through changes like myself.I suffer from bursitus of my elbow and shoulder because of repetitive movement and the hard playing..so Now I Play Smart.....Crank up the mics please.......LOL...........Ray

That's the whole reason I ask about mikes; bloody guitarists!
