Hey does anyone treat their conga skins with anything. i met a guy that would coat his skins with cream, leave them out in the sun for like 2 hours and then clean them up. then put them on and tune them. they sounded really good. but to me, just seemed like a waste of time. any tips??

or you can get LP skin oil to bring some life back to old skin. But theres' a point , that just replacing is best.
Do not put skin lotion on your drum heads(skins).

Lard or Manteca as my drum brother Tonio posted is the most common product used for skins. Hand lotion IS NOT the way to go, I don' t care how much lanolin is in the bottle. Manteca is a natural fat, putting a "thin" coat on a tuned down head and then left in the sun for over 2 hours is the way to go. It will bring the skin back to life and add longevity to it. My skin on my requinto is over 20 years old and still going strong.....At your Service...JC JOHNNY CONGA...

As in 'frying pan/full english breakfast' lard?
Spring is here, so we'll have a little sunshine here in blighty....
How much/little? Is it best to remove the skins and go over the shoulder too?

check it out>>> corojo de manteca(palm oil or palm nut butter/) It will prolly be easier, and soaks in quicker than Lard. In either case, make a thin coat, like your putting on sun tan lotion. You don't have to take the head(skin) off, just untune them well. Completely loose.
