Dear Duca,
How's Bari? I've heard great things about your town, and next time I get to Italy, I really want to go there. Anyway, to answer your question, I like the Nuskyns. I have one on a tumba and it does sound good. They are a bit louder than mule skin, not as warm sounding, but the pitch stays put after tuning. Even in a downpour! So far I haven't experienced any annoying ringing sound with them. They got my vote.

Ciao,

Berimbau

I played some at a party a few weeks ago, and found them louder than animal skin, and without annoying ringing like the previous post.

I'd say they are the way to go if you're playing in a loud traveling stage band!

Probably not so good for acoustic Afro-Cuban with singing - where softer tones might be more desirable.

I own a set of 4 remo tuff-e-nuff conga's with nuskyn, and i love them.
They have a incredible live sound and a little bit more volume than natural skins, but they stay always in tune.

In recording situations i use damperpads of Rtom Moongel to soften the sound.
