I have seen a parachute used for sound proofing, in a studio, but I don't know if u have access to one. The other is "egg cartons", for cheap sound proofing and of course "cork" which is very good but a bit expensive......"JC" Johnny Conga.... :;):
You might want to check out the link below. This place sells foam and also some really heavy (and expensive) material that can laid down in sheets between floors and walls. I'm sure it wouldn't be practical to get it shipped to Puerto Rico, but the site has some soundproofing info that might be helpful.
johnny and TomInVa, thanks for the info. tom, i will check the site. thanks guys!!!my best always. i need the insulation bad. don''t have no place to practice hard, i mean with confidence and really with out worries. take care!!! franc
franc, are really concerned about sound proof? Or acoustic treatment? There is a big big difference. If sound proofing, what is your budget? And can you do the work in the room? sound proffing is for keep sound in from going out and keeping sound out from coming in. Like so you don't disturb your neighbors or other room attached with the house. This takes enormous amount of time effort and money. Acoustic treatment is for making the sound in the room good. It won't be as much financially m but can take some time to figure out how to treat it. Check this out for starters.here
sound proofing -has air borne and structural ways of getting through even a pin whole. Bass frequencies is the hardest to treat. You need MASS like bricks. Try this out get a blanket and put it over your head, does it makes a differnce to the music you hear? Not much huh? Foam is only good for mid to high frequencies. The vinyl barrier is only for internal wall and fire stops.Sound still can get through in a pin whole. You can put carpet, foam etc up on the walls, and you can still hear it on the outside.
tonio, thanks for your reply. i'm interested in sound not going out. thanks for the site, ok. i checked it and is very informative. i will keep trying on my conquest in sound proofing. i need it urgently!! i feel like being unfaithful to myself when i can't practice with peace of mind. thanks again!!!my best to you!!!
good cheap way to sound proof a room to leave your neighbors and kids asleep is foam. The kind of foam you make matresses with or regular thick foam. If you are allergic this can help. start with doors and windows and the walls. a thick layer should do the trick for cheap while you find anoter solution.
akdom, hope all is well!!! do you know where is the appropiate place to get that kind of foam??? i need it urgently, believe me!!! thanks for your reply ok. always take care!!!! your friend, franc
Hey, I live in a NYC coop and have a definite issue about sound. I play guitar, drums & percussion, so hitting a kick drum to practice pad (no way a 22" bass drum in here) or a conga drum produces way too much noise and vibration. I checked out this company's site: http://www.asiproaudio.com
I called because the first thing I wanted to deal with was the vibration going through the floor. The studio is a dedicated room on the corner of the building, so vibration going down was my #1 concern. They were very helpfull and suggested a special 6x4' mat (about 65lbs!) to go under my practice area for about $100. It has REALLY done the trick. I am going to consider using their treatments for the walls, ceilings, etc in the future. The truth is that you can't make it "soundproof" without spending thousands and buiding a room within a room, but a few hundred will make a huge difference and at least get you to a reasonable volume for daytime practicing.
One word of advice (if you live in an appartment situation as opposed to houses close together) is to involve your neighbor. Nothing starts a war faster than constant noise, ESPECIALLY someone drumming. When I got the mat I had my fiancee go down with a cell phone and listen in the room under the studio. You can hear it if you listen standing under the ceiling, but not in the appartment in general. By letting them know that I bought an "expensive" studio treatment for their sake and giving them at least the impression of "some" control (what room, general time, etc), they were kept from looking for sound.
Richard, thanks for your help. in my case the houses are close one from the other. my house is made in cement. i want to isolate a empty room that i have . i even want to make it sound proof so that i not bother my family. hard , isn't it???? thanks again ok. take care . my best!!!! franc:cool:
