New to the site and looking for some guidance. I've been learning on a set of LP Aspires but after reading here I'm thinking I'd like to upgrade both my drums and skill level. I play in my church band and we do all sorts of music from rock, latin, soul, fast, slow, etc. etc.

So, I have a budget of $1000.00 to spend on TWO drums. Looking for some feedback on Professional level drums - (1) Conga and (1) Tumba. Of course I'll go try them out first, but wanted to see which brand you guys would go with and why?

Great group here by the way - been learning a ton just reading on the site.

Thanks-

Let me allow to plug Pearl Percussion:

Dare to be different than the brands everybody has....You could have the full set of three congas by buying Pearl Elite Wood Congas. At this place they have a good price and even free shipping and you save money in your $1,000 budget. If you just want two you save even more:

http://www.midwestpercussion.com/drums/ethnic/pearl/pearl.html

Better priced than LP, Meinl and Toca and quality wise as good or better Dont' get fooled on this one...

Also, Pearl has other offerings in Fiberglass and in wood with special designs like the Richie Flores Signature Models. Check Pearl's site: http://www.pearldrum.com

Have you decided if you want to go wood or fiberglass...(See postings on the pros and cons of each other).

Saludos!

Thanks for the reply.

Guess my budget could include a good Bongo set as well if I go with only the Conga and Tumba.

Hmmm - something to consider.
