Does anyone know the longterm effects of using one of those adjustable double conga stands? Other than the lower side support piece, it seems like the upper bracket holds the entire weight of the drum. Isn't that a lot of stress at one point, especially when you add the downward force of the hands? I like the look of the double stands, but it seems like the basket stands put less strain on the conga.

I don't know about the long term effects but I will say that the basket stands I have played with were more stable. Also if you are ever playing with another person teaching or performing they are more versitile.
happy drumming

Ive used the following stand for over 10 years with the same congas and Ive found they have somewhat warped the head of the drum and the single bracket on the side of the drum does have alot of stress placed on it. (LP290B on far right)

With a recent new aquisition of an extra 3 congas I am now using the following stands with my new congas, they support the drum with little stress on the drums. Also far more sturdy.

The problem with the adjustable double stands is how cumbersome they are to set up. You have to have the "ear type device" to put them in place. Also, the double stand is a "hassle" to carry. Furthermore, the double stand limits you in the distance between the congas because you are obligated to what the stands allows you to.

The basket types are easier to use and handle. Of course, you have other things to bother with but are much easier than the double stand. If you like you're conga/quinto tilted is much easier than with the double stand that you have to work with the "ear device" to get the tilt you like.

The best basket types I've seen are LPs, in steel, and Pearl's which are a "collapsible type" made with straps that is easy to set up.
