While I can appreciate the work and craftmanship that has gone into them, there is no way those drums are worth US$4000

I think it may be some time before the reserve is even met...

If you carved these from scratch, how much would your time (and how much time do you think it would take you to complete all three?), materials and craftsmanship be worth on the open market?

MoPerc congas are handcrafted also, but don't cost a $1,000 dollars a drum.....and they look and so much better too!...."JC" Johnny Conga....

Exactly what Im saying JC. They are indeed beautiful drums and I appreciate the craftsmanship, however I have seen drums that are just as ornate for less than a pair of LP classics. In Ghana, where I studied Kpanlogo drums for a year, drums just like these were common place and very cheap. I'm talkin 60 dollars US apeice!
Also from looking at the pictures I'm assuming that the shells were turned on a lathe, (which Is commonplace all over the world including Cuba) and then carved for decoration.
I was just shocked to see the price on these. I have a feeling this guy is going to be holding on to them for a while.
By the way I didn't mean to come across as snarky on this topic, I just thought you all should see this.
Peace

Nice carving but I don't care for the hardware.I was just given some matadors they are so wonderfull I don't think I would swap straight across. Now if i can just get some bags the sleeping bags I have them in are a bit too long.I'll bet this guy has some nice hand knitted bags for a grand a piece ..ya think?
Happy drumming

:p WOW if i may say so myself , darrnnn , they are expensive. You can get that done if you want in cuba for a fraction of the cost . But why the #### would you want to put that kind of monney into a pair of drums that would make you feel guilty latter . B ' cause who do you think most of the monney would go to . Thats right you knows the institution ,,,,,,F....... them . I personaly and i say personaly would not invest my money in them ....... My opinion .

you know what they say about opinions .
