Hiya,
I just bought Meinl Pro's.
And I have to say that the pictures bears an uncanny resemblance - even the stands.
Fantastic drums though.

Hy you all doin' . I was playing on a pair of gon bops and they sounded realy good to me . I have a pair of meinl exclusives . The sound of the gon bops i think is louder and crisper .

were the gon bops you were playing the tumbao series, or a higher end?

The Gon Bops, with the exception of the California
Series are made in Taiwan where DW / Pacific Drums
(who purchased the Gon Bop trademark) have their
factory. They are following in the footsteps of
Pearl who have been more & more diversifying into latin instruments. Meinl was the leader - the first to manufacturer in Thailand, and then LP followed their example. Probably the same wood.
It's like the car makers
who every year try to look like one another, and sell you
minor differences like colors, polish, etc.
When comparing all the brands, realize that the only main
difference now is price and getting lucky to get
a decent skin on them. You can always replace the head though. The main thing is to get some and keep playing.
