LP palldium - any comments from users?

There are such amazing deals in the US on those, that I was considering buying a set of three (quinto,conga,tumba) but I have never played them. Has anyone got a set of those and could tell me what they think. Isn't $1099 an amazing deal?

Hey my conga brother from another mother!

$1099 U.S? Shit, Id hate to have paid that!, I got mine substantially cheaper (in Australian $$) due to a partial endorsment.


I have used the following drums in my career (either have owned them or belonged to the other percussionist in the band I played in at the time, or provided by the venue/tour manager)
LP Patato,Meinl Floatunes, Meinl Woodcraft, Meinl Mongo Santamaria, Matador (wood), LP Classics, LP Galaxy (both fibreglass and wood), SONOC, Gon Bops (original 70's version) and Pearl Ritchie Flores series.
Out of all those drums, though some were far better than others, and are of high quality, none come close to the Palladiums in terms of quality and strength, finish and sound.

I use 3 LP Palladiums (soon to be 4) as my main set of tumbadoras (I also have 3 LP Classics that I use depending on the gig)

I have 2 congas and 1 super tumba, which I use in combination with 3 LP Collapsible cradle stands.
The Super Tumba takes a bit of practise to tune (extra amount of lugs) but you soon get the knack of it.
I play the Palladiums on stands and let me tell you, I have never heard congas that sound as good as these. Of course, I personally 'hand picked' the skins from what was in stock and have some great LP Giovanni signature series skins on the drums.

The crispyness and clarity of tone is unbelievable, they stay in perfect tune all night and their sound projection (on stands) is unbelievable. I get great sound out of them with minimal effort.
Apart from my main 2 bands, I also do alot of freelance work, and no matter who I perform with, the comments are always the same, musicians love the sound of them, they are blown away with their projection. volume, clarity of tone, crispyness, no ugly overtones (ringing), very warm big sound. They look absoloutly fantastic in my personal opinion also.
The only bad point I can think of is their weight, they are substantially heavier than my Classics. I had custom heavy duty soft cases made up for them so as to preserve their finish/protect them during lugging etc.

If you can get them at a good price, I say go for it! (providing you dig their sound - that is the main point!!!)
They are drums which will surely last you a life time. I also love their larger height (32")

Hello everyone,

I could not word it better than my brother Abakua when it comes to the LP Palladiums! I like to be a seated player and I am very happy with the sound of all the drums but playing on carpet should be avoided, haha! I have all 4 of them :p ! I am semi endorsed by LP since I teach here in Perth, Western Australia so I got them for a bargain. Unfortunately I had to sell some of my supercussion congas, see pic below

which were great sounding drums as well, click here to hear them! I had however also a nice digital conversation with Johny Conga on some very old (over 50 years old!) Sabu Martinez tumbadores I have here and they also have an unique sound!

Anyway, it's always good to have drums for the rest of your life and ... don't forget it's equally important to have good hands!

It feels so good when you have new equipment.....! Anyway, I shouldn't say this publicly but the Pallediums are great sounding congas. Had the opportunity, during the Batacumbele reunion here in Puerto Rico, to share some time with Giovanni, and talk about his congas, that were Pallediums gave a demo and the history of his input into the design of the Pallediums...They actually sounded great, specially, the super tumba....(although have to admit that with Giovanni hitting a pot sounds good)!

Que afortunado que eres! I have a few Batacumbele recordings and always dreamed of seeing them live, I play along to the recordings, sometimes I play them in the dark and close my eyes imagining I was there, especially the live recordings I have of them

Please share the discussion with us re his input etc etc.

That 14 inch Tumba is Massive! It must have a humongous belly! Also, those custom made bags are beautiful. Are they made in Australia? I would be interested in some.
If you could, can you give me the measurement of the widest part of the belly(circumfrance) on that 14 inch Tumba. The reason why I ask is, I'm getting a custom made 14 inch Tumba that has a wide belly and I'm having a hard time locating a bag big enough to fit in. I'm thinking of buying a Palladium bag for it. Thanks in advance.

hehehe, The 14.5 inch Super Tumba, its not massive, it just has big bones! :p
Thanks for the comments regarding the bags, they were custom made by a friend of mine in another city here is Aus... They are very strong and extremely well padded. My friend who made them is also a conguero, and I explained I needed bags that would protect the tambores very well, even against airport baggage handlers.
If you are interested I can put you in contact with him and see if he can help you out with some custom bags.


Anyway, as for measurement, at its widest section in the belly (not considering the area around the lugs - just the belly) it measures 1m, 45cm
