I seen a clip of Giovani (spelling) playing them, of coarse Im sure he can make a garbage lid sound great but from what I heard it sounded pretty good.
I never heard them in real life, does it have any low bottom sound at all?
I have one for a year and it is not a real conga but for the price and space it takes it is fantastic. No bottom end what so ever but a really good open and a half decent slap. It won't replace the real thing but is great to take travelling, practising and if your giging rig is too big and congas is not your main instrument it is a great addition. Also it can be used to be your third or fourth, or fifth,... congas as it provides a very good open tunable across a wide range.
It has been a very good buy for me, but it sure won't replace my palladiums or gon bops.
Does anyone remember the Gon Bop compact congas? They were about one third the height of a regular conga. Once you had them set up up on a stand you would pull down the resonating tube that telescoped out of the bottom of each drum. For their size they had a great sound including a pretty reasonable bottom end/bass. They were great for gigging as the pair could be packed into a single conga case. Just the other day I was chatting with a friend who used to own a pair and he said he's always regretted selling them. They must be pretty rare, I've only ever seen a couple of sets of them. Anyone else know of them? Pavlo
I've got Both Sizes of LP Compact Conga(11", 11 3/4 ")
I didnt find them good for practice because they are so different in touch from the real thing(Not in sound) i think thats because of the evans skin i solved this problem when i replaced the original skins with remo Nuskyn
as for the sound i am using them on a regular basis in my gigs with DJ's or with One man shows where there is no Live drums playing and i am so satisfied
I used a compact conga on '' before new year's jam session'' in our local club for a first time on a gig. I can say that CC surprised me and my fellow musicians as the audience. No bass sound but still very resonant and groovefull making sounds. Ain't the real thing, but you shouldn't expect that! You can still get a lot of sounds and do some crzy tricks with the CC.
