I have been listening to and playing along with this CD incessantly. The first half of the first track, Vale Todo, is just claves, palitos, and singing, and as such is the single best track I've found for practicing my tumba and tres golpes parts - you can really lock into the feel of the palitos here.

Anyway, aside from the great music, I cannot get over how great the drums sound. I've got about 5 Munequitos CD's and this one has by far the best sound quality. I think this CD was recorded in the US in 1995 during their first US tour. These may be the best-sounding congas I've ever heard on CD. I realize that the recording itself (location, mic-ing, producer, engineers, etc.) has a lot to do with it, but does anyone know what they were playing? I believe they endorse Timba now, but Timba wasn't around back then.

Thanks,

~taiko

That's my favorite Rumba CD of all! :)
I love the sound of the singer, and EVERYTHING!
Someone said that tumba player was a one of kind sort who "doesn't play with them now"? I don't know, but I do know what you mean! That CD is awesome.
