halo again comunity!
i've problem right now, i just bought evans tri-center congahead 11 inch, but doesn't fit to my giovanni conga.
after i figure out that the head doesn't fit, i went back to the store and i also brought my conga ring, and then the store investigate which one are wrong, the conga or the head. finally the conclude that my conga had wrong. my giovanni made in thailand.
does anyone have the same experience with me? what do you think. is really my conga wrong, or maybe the product is wrong?

Hi Solo,
When you say Giovanni conga, is that a Compact or a full conga?
You have to be realy careful with already mounted heads, and make sure the head you are buying is for that exact model, and even then there may be some fitting needed. Ready mounted skin heads are like that but manufactured synthetics should be a bit more consistent. Maybe the compact has a different head size, but I would argue with them that they have sold you the wrong head for the conga. I doubt very much that the mass produced hoops would differ that much, and I doubt that the Evans heads would vary that much either.

HI,
The head you need is the EC1100. LP’s 11” compact conga is designed specifically to fit that head.

my conga is a normal wood giovvani galaxy series. i'm not sure which are wrong, if you say the shop had gave me a wrong product, i think they've already gave me the right product, the product is evans EC1100 and i've already read the instruction on the back of the product, that confirm this procdut is suitable for giovanni. maybe, the problem lay on this head, i mean, maybe this head had gone wrong during the process, or maybe my ring had gone wrong during the process. hahahha. now I cant figure it out because the shop doesnt have the same head and also the giovvanni, so I cant compare it. what dou think?

Dear Solo,
Sometimes the problem is in the comfort curve rim's rabbit ears. They tend to get pulled in towards the shell after a while, and must be "opened" up a little bit for the Evand head to fit. This is how to do it. Take a hammer, preferabley a rubber hammer, and carefully hammer each of the "ears" (ie where the tuning lugs go into) from inside until they bulge outwards slightly. The Evans head should now fit snugly inside it. Do be careful during this operation as you do NOT want to compromise the integrity of the welds. Finally, open a cold beer, tune up, and JAM!!!

Are you sure with this technick? accuatly I litle afraid to do that.hehhe. but I think i'm gonna do that because i'm already sick with my old skin, it sounds bad, and doesn't hava a good resonant. but. have you ever the same experience with me?

I was given a remo fiberskin to test out for a review, had similar difficulty fitting, I had to use some force to fit the rim, in the end I used a rubber mallet to open the lug hoop a little and it fit perfect.
The congas I used for the review were 10 year old LP Classics, which over the years its lug loop had bent in a little.

i've choosed evans, because evans is the only choose which i have in my town, there is no remo skin or other. why do you think, that i shouldnt buy evans? are they sounds bad? which skins that you think is the best, diceman?
yes abakua, your'e right. jakarta is very humid. i've a lot of problem even in air conditioned room. so i think i 've to buy syinthetic skin. thanks to all of you, guys!

Solo ....WELCOME TO OUR FAMILY OF DRUMMERS!....you can also use BABY POWDER on the skins of your drums to keep the humidity off of them.. The Indian Tabla players always use baby powder and you know how humid it is in India?....oh man....Evans heads ...ummm...don't know..."JC" Johnny Conga....

Yes Solo welcome brother, I have tried all the synthetics at one time or another and good skin is the real deal for sound. Synthetics just give you volume, but I can see where you are coming from with the humidity problem. JC has been playing for a good while, and I am sure he wouldnt take offence if I said he is one of the Brotherhood's 'Elders' hehehe.
If you are happy with the sound of your skins, I would try JCs suggestion first.
Good skins? now that is yet another discussion--try Mule from JCR percussion, Bauer cowskins etc etc

a couple days ago I've sent email to Lp Customer Service and reported my problem with evans. and finally i figure the problem out. the problem is my rim. my rim is extended collar comfort curve II, so the old version evans will not fit to this.
now i'm happy, because the problem become more clear to me.
btw thanks for all important info guys!
