Where is the best place for me to get a set of mounted mule skin heads for my Meinl Pros? The flesh hoops are supposed to be different from the other makers. Emailed Isaac, but got no response. Is he still in the business and still here at the forum?
Do you cats think these would open up the sound of my drums or should I go with Nuskyns or Evans to make them louder?

Hello Mangorockfish!
That's odd about Isaac, may be he is just out town or connection, cause he emailed me very soon when I emailed him about the skins... I didn't ordered the skins from him, cause he is, placed in NYC and I am in Slovenija and friend of mine will get me a skins from Italy, this summer.
I have mule skin on one of my tumba and it's like all the guys said here... Nothing beats the mule skins. I am sure your Meinl Pros will sound fantastic.
About the hoops... My friend used the hoop from Meinl's skin (put in a water to get the ring and then placed a new skin on it...
Evans heads are said to be lousy (I can't imagine to have Evans head from compact conga on a real conga...) Nuskyns... Haven't hear them yet.
Mule skin, way to open up your drum...
Good luck!
Primozz

Have replaced original heads on LP "Ardiente" conga+ quinto plus tumba head on old LP fiberglass (1970's) with Isaac's pre-mounted mules. There is no comparison between them and buffalo or even rawhide calf/steer. Solid tuba thumps that'll move air, opens that punch with melodic clarity, open and closed slaps that crack and snap. They are sweet, and Isaac is an absolute pro devoted to providing the best service. He is --as mentioned -- possibily out of town. He will take care of you.

MANGOROCKFISH, ISAAC DOESN'T DEAL WITH MEINL'S TOO MUCH IN NYC, SO HE DIDN'T HAVE NONE PRE MOUNTED BUT YOU CAN GET EM AND HAVE SOMEONE MOUNT'EM FOR YOU (UNLESS YOU CAN DO IT YOURSELF). OR YOU CAN TAKE OUT THE RIMS AND LET HIM HOOK IT UP. EITHER WAY YOU WON'T REGRET IT.
