Anyone play or hear Pearl - Bobby Allende congas?

Anyone have played the Pearl Bobby Allende series congas, they sure look some sweet. I know they have the remo fyberskins and the fiberglass shells look great.

I do. They are nice drums. I play with a loud worldbeat/fusion kind of group and they are perfect for that style. I could see where in a small, more traditional setting that they might not sound as good.

They are made well and if you like the fiberskins its great that they come standard. (If you don't like them I guess it sucks)

I recently tested them out at the drum store Im affiliated with, I was not overly impressed with their sound or projection.
They look nice though.

I cant say I liked them.

cool I didnt think they would have a nice warm sound, im sure they have more of a high ended djembe ring to them, am I close?

Many of the Congueros down here are using fyberskin,a friend has fiberskin on his LP classics and they sound fantastic,maybe is a matter of taste,nuskyn sound is kind of dull with less projection than fiber. I have fiber on two of my Bongos and the other one is hybrid with fiber on the Macho and a thick steer skin on the Hembra. I do like the sound of fiberskin. The only defect I have seen is ,with time fiberskin tend to look like bubble wrap,that happens to a friend on his Congas but I have never have any problems on my Bongos.

How are you all doing good i hope . I have a friend with fiberskins and they have peeled . The synthetic plastic or whatever it is , is showing . The top just peels off .

I do have a set of Pearl Bobby Allende's. (I have post about them here so check it out in some of the old threads here).

The Bobby Allende's have been a hit and they are selling very good. I had to wait a couple of months for my set and it was worth the wait. (I am a Pearl endorser).

They are fiberglass...of course you will not get the warm sound of wood...(They look like wood because they do not have the middle ring most fiberglass congas have). Also they come with Remo Fyberskins from the factory...However, they are great sounding congas for those who like to play fiberglass and like Fyberskins....Their volume in live situations is good...If you want to play them seated...they are made for the seated player because they are 28 inches tall versus the standard of 30 inches out there...

In comparison to other Pearl congas they have set of comfort rims that are unique for this model and are very comfortable..(Better than LP's second generation of comfort rims). They came out with a "cafe con leche" color but now they are also come in a "solar sparkle" design that is pretty neat...

Again, is a matter of taste here but I recommend them if you are a Fyberskin and fiberglass conguero.....

Regarding Remo Fyberskins, some people do not like them because of the overtones they have. (Overtones are heard by you the player but project great to the public and others).. They are the most played by congueros who play with synthetic heads..The new Fyberskins, with the ring as the traditional heads and also Remo's own NuSkyns, do not look or sound the same..They have less overtones.

Well im not sure I would like the fiberskyns or not, and I dont think there is anything locally that has a conga set to try with them mounted. I like the bright projection of drums, but I also like the warm tones of a rawhide skinned drum as well. I haver the nuskyns on my congas now they are ok, nothing beats rawhide but for tuning/humid conditions Im trying them.

I just seen a pearl set for sale a 11-3/4 conga and (2) 12.5 tumbas... isnt that a weird combo having 2 tumbas and one conga?

Having just recently tried the remo nuskyns on a couple of my drums to try and solve the tuning issues associated with the humid weather here, I find that I still have to tune and tweek my tunings on all my drums for every time I play, sometimes thats once in the morning and once at night and they will have changed by that time. Do you find these pearl drums hold tuning better then a wood drum with synthetic head?

I was just wondering if the wood shell might be having something to do with the tuning issue as well as the rawhide heads in this humid climate? Maybe a fiberglass set with synthetic heads would be the ticket?

Hello my groovefull and respected friends!

I have just discussed with a local dealer for Pearl and he offered me really good price for Bobby Allende Caffe Con Leche congas!

Abakua'a words from a year ago about knowing the sounds of congas and which style of music they fit... Convinced me, also my experience in studio with my band. Abakua, thank you MAN, you are far from Slovenija, but I do hope that I'll meet you and rest of you guys sometimes, cause, i'm really getting here a lot of fine advices and positive enrgy! I liked the pics from Abakuas band party tribute to Pancho Quinto. Big Hearted people and party!

Thank you Raymond for the input on Pearls, but if anyone can get and post some audio clip of these Coffee with milk congas I would reallyappreciated!
