Hello Everyone,

I went to Guitar Center the other day in search of lower priced, good congas, and a couple of things seemed interesting. As previously mentioned on this board, they have the wild, red lava LP Classic II, at a ridiculous low price; as well as the Gon Bop Tumbao. Anybody have any ideas as far as how these two would stack up, or how the Gon Bops would stack up against regular Classics.
Thanks! Scott

Follow the leader and stick with LP. Just say NO to crack, as in cracked Gon Bops!!!

Gon Bop Tumaos are their mid range, made in Thailand drums. The LP Classic 2's (while still made in Thailand) are a little higher than mid range. From my experience they seem to be a step above Matadors. I really liked the Classic 2's. My buddy bought the set so I got to play them quite a bit. They have better bass tones than the Tumbaos due to the more taped shell. Even though both have water buffalo heads, I believe the classic 2's have the top of the line LP heads. "Hand picked" as they say...The main reason why I didn't buy the classic 2's is cuz of the "Red lava". Just wasn;t feelin' it. But if you happen to like the design and color of the LP's I'd go with them over the Gon Bop tumbaos. They are a great deal and GC won't be getting any more in cuz its a special anniversary thing. Godd luck with your purchasing!

Thanks for the advice. As a result, I'm planning on checking out, and probably buying, the Classic II's tomorrow. Scott

I've heard through the grapevine that LP Classic II's are not that good...part of the new, mass-produced, cheaper quality LP (thank god my Lps are 1970s dinosaurs).

I haven't heard Gon Bops...but...be ware of the LP Classic II.

If you really want a good LP drum, go with a pro fiberglass model, or the original LP Classic. I have both...always sound good.
