I mentioned this in another thread, Guitar Center is closing out it's stock of (brand new) LP Classic Wood congas. These drums typically sell for $330- $400 elsewhere.
I've had my eye on the last one in thier Independence MO store. Yesterday I saw that it had been marked down from $179 to $130 so I snagged it for $128.68. Anyone looking for a great deal should contact thier local Guitar Center store to see if they have any Classic Wood drums left. Here's the reciept.

Hey Congamyk!
Good looking on the deal. What a find. It must be only the stores out in the midwest cuz here in UPNY, they have none in stock and don't tell me that they are closing out on any classics...they just tell me they can order them new(obviously at standard pricing) . Congrats again on the steal!

REMEMBER CONGAS DONT SELL THAT MUCH IN THE MID WEST LIKE IN THE EAST SIDE (N.Y ,FLA) WHERE THERE IS A LARGE HISPANIC , CARRIBEAN, COMMUNITY. NOTHING PERSONAL. RETAILERS HAVE TO GO A LITTLE LOW ON PRICE TO MOVE THEIR MERCHANDISE.

Classic II use plywood, much more inferior build to the Classic model. (staves)

That's right, the original classics are prime. The new Classic II model is internediate. Here is the classic model:

LP Classic Model Congas were the first wood congas introduced by Latin Percussion.
They have become the standard by which other wood congas are judged.
30" tall select, kiln dried, environmentally friendly Siam Oak construction adds to the drum’s overall warm tone; unique shell contour brings out the drum’s mid and high sound ranges
Hand selected, natural rawhide heads
Comfort Curve II Rims
5⁄16" diameter tuning lugs
Reinforced LP Heart Side Plates
Fiberglass layer added to the inside upper portion of the shell to provide additional strength
LP ProCare Integrated Shell Protectors prevent the side plate hardware from marking or damaging adjacent drums
Accessory pouch, tuning wrench, and LP Lug Lube included
LP Classic Model 11" Quinto
Sale Price US - $589.00
LP Classic Model 11 3/4" Conga
Sale Price US - $619.00
LP Classic Model 12 1/2" Tumbadora
Sale Price US - $639.00

Congamyk,
I went on a calling rampage and must have contacted about 15 Guitar Centers here in the NY metro area but with no luck. Many of them didn't have any Classics in stock but were willing to special order them for me. However, the prices I was quoted were no where near what you got yours for.
I must say, the folks at Guitar Center seem to be really friendly and helpful. I think verticalgil hit it on the skin when he stated that the prices for these kinds of drums would be lower out in areas like the mid-west where the demand is not as high as NY/FLA for example.

Bros, I called GC in KC and what congamyk got was a clearence deal, 'cause the prices they quoted me was no better than what I get here in Tampa. They quoted me some good prices for some classics , but they turned out to be classics II. And as Abakua said they are low quality congas. I am looking for the white w/ black grain classic , the quinto or a conga. Currently I have a conga and tumba in white, quinto in green.

I did get a "clearance deal"... they told me they were clearing out the Classics and replacing thier stock with the (cheaper) Classic II's. I bought the conga and tumba last winter for $179 & $189. Last week I noticed the quinto had been marked down to $130 so I was all over it. :p
