For those of you who play congas seated, do you use basket stands, rubber feet, or none of the above? I see most traditional players using no stands at all, and usually tilting the quinto. It seems to me that with the drums slightly elevated from the floor you get more sound out of it. I use gibralter basket stands, and for some reason I feel like I cant get a solid hit on the drum, its like they're bouncy or something. It seems like maybe they're top heavy and the stands dont support the drums enough. Does anyone have any advice or tips on what to use, or how to setup?

I'm a traditional "congas on the florr" kinda guy. I have to have solid congas under me. I do use an LP double conga stand for rock gigs with a big set up but i don't enjoy playing congas like that. to wobbly. The floor just gives me the support i need. (its like i'm talking about a pair or underwear or something
)
Try the floor for a while (but not on soft carpet-sucks up your sounds) and see how it feels and sounds.

I play seated, but for gigs with my funk/rock band I have stands I got from Latin Rhythm Traders. I still sit, I just have the stands at their lowest point. This gets your congas about 3 or 4" off the floor. I raise my seat a bit, and it works really well, very stable. For me, I never know what the bandstand area is going to be like (rugs and such). It also helps with the volume in an amplified situation ( I'm miked as well).

i play seated, using either an lp double conga stand or on the floor, if there is no carpet. you can lower the lp stand to its lowest point and raise your drum throne to its highest. i use a ludwig throne w a seat back. it works. beware though, that lp stand is a heavy mother. ive never tried the lp triple stand, imagine it to be similar...

I generally play seated. Many place have carpets which eat up
the sound. I keep in my car a piece of thin wood i got from
the scrap pile at the lumber yard. Its a nice piece of
Luan. This lets the sound really sing, in addition to a
Mic of course. If the drive to the gig is going to be very long,
and I don't want to be sitting again at the gig, I take
some Gibralter stands. They can also be adjusted to
sitting level.
An interesting setup I once saw was the late
Ramon Lopez who played with the Stan Kenton Orchestra.
He had stands but not too high, and he sat on a raised swivel
bar stool with a foot rest. He could then alternate between
sitting or standing when the energy level of
the song went up. Ergonomically being able to change
positions is the healthiest for our backs, however I feel
one has more control of the skins in the seated position.
Ramon had the best of both worlds!

Hi all
I play seatted. I use a set of 3 congas and I find this position very comfy even if I like the standing one too.
I sit my drums right on the floor. The sound is less warm, but more crisp.
i am miked and the sound I get is quite OK.
I hase low stands for all my drums, but I rarely use them...
