A friend, that I have played in bands with for 5 or 6 years, and I are going to start a duo. Him on guitar, banjo, & mandolin, me on congas and other percussion. I am going to need a table or rack/stand to hold bells, shakers, etc. What do you guys use. Did you buy yours or make it? Love the LP percussion table, but it might be a little much.

I had the LP table for a little while, it was more in my way than it was worth so I got rid of it. I was playing seated and i found it really hard to set it up without getting in the way. In my opinion the LP table is far too big. I'de suggest a table that mounts to a stand like the Meinl or gibraltar ones, and look on ebay or craigslist for a good price on a used one.

deadhead,

Here's a possible solution that works for me. I also play seated at a 3 drum setup. MY perc toys include guiro, various shakers, maracas, claves. Not a lot, but enough to get in the way when not readily available. I bought a piece of canvas from fabric store and --best as I could -- sewed a bunch of open pockets onto the canvas. Then I sewed flap down along its top edge to allow me to feed a cord through it. Attached a couple of heavy duty rubber bands (you could use a bungee) to either end and attached the rubber bands to a couple of lug bolt heads on either side of my conga (on the right) . The pocket hangar now holds my few toys easily accessible (and non-visible from audience view) and I can reach for each and drop it back into respective pocket as needed mid-song if necessary. Sorry, my digicam on the blink or I would load a pix.

I'm using the meinl table, works fine for small setups (when I'm playing seated).
But I'm thinking of buying the gibraltar workstation or the Meinl workstation for the bigger setup (when I'm standing).
Still dreaming of this setup, Ramon Yslas for the "stripped tour" with christina aguilera:

Great idea Congatick, it keeps the toys separated. I have a small table but am always conscious of making spurious noises banging stuff together when doing quick change overs specially on the quiet numbers.

Now where is the sewing basket?

...and if necessary--depending on the number of perc toys you play with-- you can make two PercPockets-- one attached to conga , one on tumba. Good luck, and if you're not a sewer-- look for a friend with sewing machine skills.

Thanks for the input there 'tick. That is a great idea, but I need something to set a bell tree on and mount a couple of blocks, and bells, wind chimes and such.
I have an idea on building a "percussion system", but was looking for other ideas to maybe expand what I'm thinking of.
