It seems to me that there is a lot of trading congas as of late. It seems to me that there are more Gios and Pladiums getting traded for Classics than anything else. I thought that Gios and Pladiums were the Cadillac of LP's line, so am I missing something?
I did a few licks on a set of Gios or Pladiums at a drum shop in Memphis some time back and thought they were the bomb. Do the Classics sound anywhere close to the Gios or Pladiums?
From everything i've heard, Palladiums are super heavy and folks get sick of lugging them around. Classics are a decent weight and still sound great for LP mass produced drums. They give you the warm sound of wood at a reasonable price (depending where you get them from) and they are a great solid all around drum. after a lot of shopping around i picked them. Sure i wanted some JCRs or the like-but I got 2 kids & a lovely wife to feed! They should be here this week. I'll have to let you know more from experience when they get here!
Alafia Abures! I hope that you are well and in an abundance of blessings!
Abure Sakuntu, you are absolutely right, the weight is the determining factor for most of us who own a set. As for me, I have four (2 - 14" & 2 - 12 1/2"), and even though I customized 'em, I don't take them out to gigs for that very reason, too damn heavy!
I would sell them if someone were interested in 'em, but I think that every one is aware of the weight issuse. For those of us in the States who are of a certain age and can relate, the LP Palladiums are the "Edsel" of congas!
