Do you use your feet?

Wondering if you guys use your feet when playing congas, ie: hi-hat, cowbell, kick, etc.? Theres lots of cool options nowadays, and I'm curious as to what everyone uses if anything. My current setup is Quinto, Conga, Tumba, with a Tambourine on a LP Gajate bracket on the left foot and a 16" kick drum that I converted from a floor tom on the right.

The guy that I took a few, not enough, lessons from, uses a hihat on the left side.

I use the gajate bracket and a low cowbell. Sometimes i've used a Woodblock (clave etc...-but i'm no Bobby Sanabria :laugh: ) The cowbell on the feet is my main stay. If i was playing with a small set up i would probably incorperate the Tambo for backbeat snare hits etc...

I made a d.i.y Gajate bracket that I sometimes play campana with the right foot between Conga and Tumba..

I ACTUALLY USE AGAJATE BRACKET BUT I HAVE A JAM BLOCK ON IT AND A TAMBOURINE BEHIND THAT..HELPS ME KEEP THE TIMING WHEN THERE IS NO DRUMMER

I was using a pedal/braket with a bell for the set up when playing with DJ's,(timbales/congas),but I got to stand in one foot,and I didn't like that idea.Dr. Zaragemca

I use a 16" floor tom as well. I have a Fiberskyn on the bottom and an emporer on top. I reversed an old DW 5000 pedal and use a big fluffy beater to get sort of a surdo sound (big and not alot of attack). I use a jam block and cowbell on the left side. I'm the only percussion in our trio so I try to have the flexibilty to do whatever is needed. You can hear some of our rehearsal stuff at www.myspace.com/cladband. One pass - no overdubs. The little Rhythm Tech mounted cabasas are cool and sound pretty good.

Probably the coolest thing I've bought is a 12" Meinl pandeiro that I can use as a snare, tamb, timbale, and shaker - all dependng on how and where you strike it.

It's not your traditional use of congas and other perc stuff but it's a lot of fun.

Hi there

I have a pedal that I adapted to mount any kind of bell on it...

It works fine.. Somehow, I feel more comfy using my left foot...

I also use a PVC cap on top of the fabric of the mallet to give me a nicer sound..

Here is another option besides your regular cowbell or tambourine on a bracket.

A chekere on a hi-hat stand or as Miguelito likes to call it "chekere on a stick".

Thats a really cool idea with the shekere on the hi-hat stand, how do you go about mounting it tho? I imagine you have to cut a hole in the bottom?

I've been thinking of a way to rig up a quiro with some kinda scrapper on a foot pedal, but I'm not sure how effective it will be. Might be something to mess around with though.
