Measure from the bearing edge of the drum itself, so if your head is on the drum it would only be the playing surface that you measure, not rim to rim.

By the way ... is the 9 3/4 Requinto

a a traditional size?

b of any use? I´m thinking of the high-end LP Galaxy series which also features a 9 3/4 Requinto

and

c if anyone out there owns one, what does it feel and sound like? Do you use it as an extra "spice" or does it serve function of a Quinto?

Sorry for the many questions, I´m just wondering - and I´m naturally curious :D
Peace & drum

ho mike

quinto is normaly used as main and central drum in a 3set, a 9/34 requinto will not do the same job, heads simply too small and will offer nearly no bases. if thinking about a 3 set, take the other one, this is 1212 1134 1212, i am sure you know what i mean, would be a better solution for your purposes, i suppose. galaxy and palladiums are the only lp drums with really good hardware, so you easily pitch the conga pretty high, and one of the tumbas to conga pitch, if you want, thats no problem with galaxys. or leave it a bit lower, so you are more out of the pocket. no problem as well.
if you really need a 4. drum, better take quinto, just when playing 5 drums i would consider buying a requinto. but who does in real life? playing 5sets means conguero playing for other conguero. very few pros use it on stage or even in studio, anga is one of them. may he rest in peace.
if you need some high pitched crispy spice on stage, go and get you good bongos, easier to handle, less expensive, offering new possibilities in addition.
my opinion.
if you ve got more to ask, feel free to phone me. you look up my number in your pm.

Thanks, Zwar,

My doubts about the Requinto have been confirmed by you, thanks! When I started off conga playing, I had them cheapos by CP (cosmic percercussion), and they were 9 3/4 and 11"....

I thought the professional series, i.e. Galaxy was more suitable, but I guess you´re right about tuning congas up or down or using bongos.

I wish you and everybody a happy Easter (not yet, but soon ;-)
Peace & drum
