I'm finally going to bite the bullet and buy conga bags. The Meinl's look nice, but I've only seen them on the internet, not up close and personal. Anyone have any comments on these, or something they think is better?

I did a forum search on "bags" and "case", but didn't come up with much.

Hi Mark!
Welcome, I own the Meinl bags and I'm totaly satisfied with 'em! They don't collapse (like cheaper bags do) and have a thick padding. I own mine for more than 1 year and they are in mint condition.
But I don't know how they are compared to other bags like Gator, Lp, etc. as those brands are more expensive here in europe than Meinl things (as it is a german brand). Maybe you watch out for good bags with wheels, much easier to haul arround!

Just be sure that they will ft your drums I have 3 LP bags that look identical, but the tumba only fits in 1 of them.

I picked up some Gator bags (through the advice of someone on this site) last fall and they've been great. There's still (Feb. 5, 2007) a two-for-one special on musiciansfriend.com, so they're only like US$30 apiece - can't beat that. I had to phone in the order to get the two-for-one because the online form wasn't set up for the special:

I have the Meinl Pro series congas and the workmanship is fantastic. I'm sure the bags would be also. I have the LP Giovani bags and they are great, but I wish I had the Meinls now for my drums. Keeping it all in the family.

Yes, these are definitely nice bags! And with a pic of Marcelo/ABAKUA on them too! :;):

I bought these bags for my Patatos. They are really solid, and a mix between a gig bag and a hard case with thin wooden plates inserted in pockets all around the bag. Just love them! Nothing wrong with the Meinl bags though - used to own a set of those - but these new ones seem more solid to me with the thin plates inserted in the padding.

Notice how they embroidert the sizes on the bags? Nice move!

I got the gator bags as well (the same 2 for 1 deal @ Musician's Friend) and they are well worth it!
They fit all 3 of my drums quite well

hah...I was about to pay $60.00 EACH bag on another site, until I decided to trust in the judgment of my fellow Congaplace contributors! They NEVER fail me.

I just went with that Gator 2-1 special. I have 2 sets of 3 congas, so when I play, one of the congas will have to fit snuggly in between the other two in the car (hey, I'm not gonna pay an extra $60.00 for that too!) But, whenever my bro uses two of them, at least they'll be padded.

I've had the Gator bags for well over a year and a half and they are great. You'll have to reconsider how you pack your vehicle since they are larger around the bottom. My 13+ inch Gon Bops tumba fits just right, but my 9.75 quinto swims in them. At least it's in a bag. I would recommend them highly.

Hi,
I just ordered 2 x 1+1free Gator bags from musiciansfriend.com and have a slight problem: they don't ship to Europe, so I used services of one company which gets the stuff and resends it. I was sent 2 packages - first is 20 pounds heavy (I suppose it's the bags) and the second weights 7.30 pounds. The problem is that shipping is extremely expensive. Does anybody have an idea what could be in the second box or what's the weight of two shipped bags?
That would help me alot because I really don't want to pay for another package and then realize that they sent me a "catalogue for free" or something..
