Set of Skin on Skins for sale

I hope this isnt out of line on this forum,
but there is a guy here in SF selling a set
of 3 Skin on Skin congas (not me! I would never sell!)

I know these are hard to get and there are some serious collectors here
Just passing the word, not making a cent..

jashua has been trying to sell those ash drums for two months. he started out at $2,100, and then pulled them and put them up to $4,000. he was at $3, 400 a week ago and is now at $3,200. he is a bit greedy and has alienated many people around here with his game. they are the powder coated hardware version jay made to cut costs to people who did not want to pay for chrome. he bought them 10 years ago at about $350 - $400 per drum. no one faults anyone for trying to make a buck, but there is a limit and there is out right greed. they are worth about $650+ a drum with the powder coated hardware and condition. if they had chrome he could get maybe $750.+; but over a grand apiece ????
even $750 is high in black, but if someone reallly wants to have them that bad ???? here is the pic - any takers?????

Yep, those are the drums alright! and $3200 is a lot for
a set of drums for sure!
I guess people have known about this set!

this is my last post on this one. i was told by a good source that this guy did no buy all three drums 10 years ago or so. he actually bought two, and then, had one more made and the original two refinished last year. he just got them back from jay in the last couple of months. he is flipping these drums at a profit and taking advantage of a great drum makers good will. jay made the other drum as an accomodation for his set as an old client, not to resell. this type of behavior is not what any reasonable person wants to see; especially the drum maker himself. it is one thing to sell hard to get drums that are no longer available, it is another to buy drums from a true craftsman and flip them for pure profit. these drum makers know what is going on and they will raise their prices; as well they should, rather than be taken advantage of. you can visit san francisco craigslist under congas if you wish to give this guy a bit of critical advise; and i do not mean trash him. we live in a society of free enterprise and commerce, so i guess anythng goes. it's a free country and we all have our own code we live by; mine is take some leave some. i guess his is take all or nothing

OK, I bought a set of skin on skins about eight years ago for about 800.00 brand new, cherry wood with chrome hardware 12 and13. I priced out an 11" to go with the set, matthew smith, african mahogany , 750.00. I put some items up for sale on e-bay, some of the pics were of percussion items that were sitting on top of my skin on skins. Some people inquired as to their availability. I got a line at that point on some new gon bops california series really cheap ( 800.00 for a pair) and I wanted some brighter spounding drums, so I sold my beloved skin on skins for 1500, first buyer. I thought it was a fair deal considering the cost of buying some new drums same size. I might have been able to get more on e-ay considering an 11 and 12 in oak went for two grand not too much earlier. Price gouging, who need it?

I'm a great believer in letting the market determine the price. If someone really thinks they're worth it, they'll pay the price.... if not he'll be twiddling his thumbs and have to continue to dropping his price.
