Casa Cubana congas were made in Long Island, NY in the mid 70's, around 75'/76'. They were hand made by a guy named Frankie Rodriguez, along the Cuban Gonzalo Vergara line. I think the wood used was walnut and they stand 31" tall, taller than Juniors and Skin on Skin. I have a 12" tumba and will have it refinished by Cali at JCR, will take it to NYC on my next trip, sometime in Dec 07'.

Moforibale Dario!!

Hey it looks pretty good. Whats up with the lugs, or is it the sideplate is too high? The wood (at least from the picture posted) seems workable.

The sideplates are set too high, but that's how it was made. I need for Cali to make smaller lugs or move them down about 1" . The wood just needs sanding and varnish.

Dario, thanks for the eye candy and the history behind the drum...Frankie Rodriguez, I assume this wouldn't be the late rumbero from Grupo Folklorico fame would it? i bet it has a nice sound, now that the wood should be nice and curao...

Is a different Frankie Rodriguez, not the one that played with Harlow,Grupo Folklorico or Zaperoko. Is a very good sounding conga is just tall, 31" instead of the traditional 30". Is the same height as the old Tom Flores Valje.
