Any one vernture to get some skin hoops made by a local metal shop?

I'm looking to see if the cost would be worth the work, or waiting for the mfg stock replacement is worth waiting for. I do have some congas that are not in production anymore, so still will need to have a local shop whip up a few.

Any experiences to share?

Tonio.
Buy your stock at home depot.
Take it to have it turned and welded at a local metal smith.

So far, looks like its going to cost about $20-30 bucks a piece. Not bad, anyone know how much LP charges?

I did this once..
I needed a flesh hoop for a Gon Bops Conga and I happened to have some extra hoops from some LP Congas which are bigger than the Gon Bops. I sawed through the LP flesh hoop, then formed it inside the Gon Bops Rim, marked it, sawed the excess off and took it to a local welder to weld the two ends together. They charged me 10 dollars. The only drawback to this method is that you have to have some larger flesh hoops than the size you need on hand.

Follow up for Tonio...
I deliver and pick up metal for a Metal Company. I often go to a fabricator and I know the top guy. If you have exact diameter dimensions, and the thickness of the metal round ( probably 1/4" ) I can find out how much it will cost. These people do precision work so the exact measurements are needed. Let me know. I never even thought about it until reading your post.

Total was $14.50 for an 11 3/4 hoop.

Thats where I have gotten it from.
But if instrument pro offers those prizes, I will have to contact them.
When you think about it, getting the stock, having it turned , welded and no talking the gas at todays cost

and time you spend running around from shop to shop.
I go to instrument pro.

The breeze, thanks for the offer. I will have to check out instrument pro. Thats a good price, but I would still need to cut and weld for a special quinto I have (9"). I did find a shop that will form and weld for 20 a pcs, so that may be another route.

I went to my local Sam Ash music store and had the drum department people order 3 hoops from LP, the cost was $13 each. I waited 2 weeks and they gave me a call when they came in.

Akdom, yes it looks easy and probably is,but consider the time it takes and still is not welded. If LP sells them at $13 US i go that route.

PS With the right tools I have seen them done in less then 5 mins.
