Here is a set of 4 from 1971. Notice the handles. These are the earliest handles that LP used 1968 / 1972. Handels are all beneath the LP Palisades Park label. There is no question that these years, the Palisades years, produced the best products that LP has ever made. The original model congas are acclaimed by the best timberos as LP's best congas ever, these are the 28" and also the 29" fiberglass congas. Made in Americana, not in the Far East.

I just p/u this 11-3/4 LP Conga on Friday. Any info on it's age/background w/b appreciated as the owner had limited knowledge and there were no labels other than the LP hardware. It stands 30" tall and I think most resembles the current Classic model.
Cheers, Randy.

I think most resembles the current Classic model.
That being true, it´s surely nice to have a traditional rim on your conga which maybe 10 years old(?) Just a guess, but also the skin looks a tad better (thicker) that the ones U find on the Classics these days.
BTW it looks as if the nuts are slightly smaller than today. This maybe is a sign that the conga is even older? Dunno, but it´s in good shape anyway.
Good buy, Randy!

Mike

Randy!

I'm 99% certain thats my old drum.

I bought it second hand from Mathew Keiser (sp?) who passed away about a year ago. He was the conga player for 'Salsa Picante' and I was taking lessions from him when I bought it (over 10 years ago). I got my Gon Bops and sold that to a player named Glenn in Halifax to help with paying for my GB's.

That is just freaky/deaky.

Looks like the same LP skin I put on it way back then (before I knew better) - bet it would sound great with a new steer.

Darrell - that just totally made my day :D

Hey Mike,

They are incredible, if you ever want to let them go, let me know. That's when LP was at it's finest !
