Wow, that's awesome! I will give him a call tomorrow. Me living on the west coast, If I call after work, the rest of the country closed for the day.
Thanks pcastag. If I can judge a person by their text, you sure seem like a pretty cool dude.

LOL, plenty here would disagree. Can't guarantee that the link is good, but I can vouch for the quality of Bill's work. Super nice smooth skins, great sound, last a lifetime. Good luck! I'll keep looking for a way to get ahold of him, I am in texas ya know!

Does anybody have any tips on cutting a full rawhide down to heads? I'm re-heading a bunch of drums (conga, bata, bongos- 17 heads in all!) and am kinda lost. I'm thinking about just buying a full side and going from there. Any info would be much appreciated.

Begon,

hmmm, I did that once and learned a lot. 1) have a sharp knife. There are utility knifes with hooked blades and good handles and buy replacements. 2) do not use the spine, maybe for a DunDun but certainly not for any other drum head. 3) if the hide comes rolled it is real difficult to lay flat and cut. 4) Hope your arms and hands are as tough as the hide. 5) About 4 inches on each side depending. I just ordered 18" for Quinto and 20" for Conga & Tumba.

Dude, get some tin snips or used garden shears. Easy money. Trace out some circles and cut away, I've done it lots of times. Bill Confer used to sell whole hides. you could get six drums and a set of bingos out of one for like 120 bucks! Wish you could still do that today!

Ok congueros, I need some help :?
I am interested in replacing the skin on my SOS quinto. I want the type of skin that will produce that nice dry tone, for Rumba.
The problem is that, I dont want a hit and miss and end up with the same issue after I replace it.
Is there anybody that maybe has a used Quinto SOS skin or a skin that will trully produce this tone?
Thanks.
K.C.

Greetings,

Bad News: Bill Confer will be retiring, and moving out of state. The company will close down that division once he is gone. He emailed Greg (Artdrum.com) with the news, and stated that he will try to finish all orders he gets before he leaves, so it looks like this is last call before he's closes.

Bad news indeed... I was getting ready to replace some skins and was going to use Confer.

My second pick was going to be Manito Percussion, any other suggestions for steer?
