My second pick was going to be Manito Percussion, any other suggestions for steer?

Manito has a variety of super nice skins. I use them most of the time.

From Venezuela I think.

The skin I have appears to vary in thickness around the cut-edge. Is that just from the drying of the cut-edge, and the thickness is really even everywhere else [hopefully]? Any opinions about Artdrum skins? http://artdrum.com/LP_DRUM_HEADS.htm

Ebongo,

There always seems to be a bit of a thickness change as I feel my way around the edges of a skin. They are natural skins from an animal and they vary. I found this trick is how you mount, spot on center or slightly to one side. In the end the thickness of the skin wraping around the flesh ring and crown is the most important as big difference may offset the final mounting. Sometimes you get a skin that does not work, but considering the cost of a skin over 20 years--you can be picky.
